It was an early Saturday morning. Dan hadn't really spoken to Phil since Thursday, aside from the morning after their sleepover. Phil had exams that day.

'Hey Danny, I have a greAT IDEA' Dan grinned, even though he didn't feel happy. Phil had started calling him Danny for no reason that Dan could think of
'What is it'
'b i k e s' Dan raised his eyebrow at the screen. Phil knew he used to do competitive bike riding, so this would only end badly for Phil.
'If you think you're ready for it' Dan replied.
'Meet at mine in 3 hours please, bring a bike'
'See you soon Philly' Dan blushed a little when he wrote Philly.

Dan looked at his hair. He didn't know what to do.
If he straightened it, it would just curl from the sweat.
If he didn't straighten it, Phil would probably make a comment about how cute it is again, and Dan wasn't sure how he'd react. Whenever Phil complimented him he reacted differently. It all depended on how Dan was feeling.

Dan biked down the road, towards Phil's house. He wasn't wearing all black, for once. He was wearing a white shirt, with black ripped skinny jeans. He liked biking in jeans, for some reason.

Phil's house was in a little cul-de-sac, about thirty minutes walk from Dans. It was just far enough for Dan to get lost in his thoughts when he walked. All of the houses were nicely kept, with beautiful gardens and perfect patios. Dan wished he was walking, it was a beautiful day. He couldn't risk getting lost in his thoughts while biking, though.

"Hey, Danny!" Phil giggled as he opened the door.
Dan blushed. Why do I always blush around Phil? Dan thought.
Dan read Phil's eyes quickly, before responding
"Hey, Philly" He laughed. The joy was there, he could feel it- but it wasn't strong. It was like a candlelight. dim and flickering. However, it was there.
"Where do you wanna bike? There's a pretty cool trail like an hour away-"
"That trail is the shit. I know exactly where that one is." Dan nodded.
"Cool! We should eat some brunch first" Phil smiled, motioning for Dan to walk in.
"Yeah"

"Hey- You must be Dan" Martyn sighed as he walked down the stairs. "You dated PJ didn't you?"
Dan winced. He didn't want to think about PJ. Not after finding out his room was destroyed.
"Sorry about him dying" Martyn looked at Dan "He should've hung out with you more."
"He couldn't have. I couldn't visit him in the hospital and he only got one weekend a month out"
Martyn laughed. "So that's what he told you, huh?"
"Bugger off, Martyn" Phil stared at his brother.
"He should know about PJ, Phil" His brother smirked. "He's dealt with his lies for too long" Martyn's smirks were far sharper and more evil than Phil's.
"Fuck off" Phil spat. Dan couldn't hide the shock in his face.
"Wow, no need to swear, Phil" Martyn put his hands up, like he was trying to defend himself.
"Dan we can just get food at a cafe or something, I'll pay" Phil sighed, standing up.

"You can't hide it from him forever, Phil," Martyn yelled as they walked out.

"Sorry about Martyn-" Phil mumbled "He's an absolute tool when he's hungover"
"Was he right, about PJ? Did he lie to me?" Dan cocked his head to the side
"No- No he's just winding you up. He's an insensitive twat."
"Oh," Dan nodded.
"I know a good cafe just down the road-" Phil smiled. "They make the best muffins ever"

"You ready, Phil?" Dan laughed, as they stood next to each other on the top of the track. "Do you want me to go first?"
"No- If I fall then I need you to save me"
Dan felt actual happiness when Phil said he needed him. It faded quickly, but slower than last time.
"Okay, go then" Dan raised his eyebrow at Phil.
And Phil went. Dan waited 10 seconds before he went too.

This track was a beginner, but it still had some pretty intense slopes on the edges of the tracks.
Dan was going quite fast, as he used to. It felt invigorating to be able to bike again. He stopped when his mother claimed he didn't care enough about it and forced him to quit.

His mother made him quit a lot of things. A lot of things he loved.

Dan turned a sharp corner, but his bike locked up. He skidded over an edge. He let go of his bike as he tumbled down the steep bank before the entire side of his torso slammed into a tree.
Dan tried to call out to Phil, but he couldn't breathe. Every part of his body ached.

"Dan?" He heard a soft yell in the distance. Phil must've stopped.
"Dan!" The yell was louder, but Dan couldn't even open his eyes in the pain. He heard leaves rustling and getting closer.
It was probably an axe murderer or slender man. Maybe a wild animal.

Maybe this was when his star would finally burn out to the rest of the world.

"Dan? Are you awake?" It was Phil.
"E-everything hurts, Phil" He whispered
"I know- I'm here- I'll call 999 for you- you're gonna be okay" He sounded panicked.
"Everything hurts, P-please make it stop hurting Phil" He was crying now.
"I know- it'll only hurt for a little longer, you'll be patched up soon Dan." Dan still hadn't opened his eyes. They scrunched up tighter when he tried to.
"P-please" Dan whispered. "Make it go away"
"I'm trying, Dan. It'll be all better so, so soon" Phil stroked Dan's hair.
