I was lying down on my bed, wrapped in a lavender-colored blanket while a TV show from Jubilife City was playing.
I was angry with my mother right now. I haven't spoken to her since our argument last night.
She let my older brother go out, let my step-sister go, and yet I'm the one who has to be stuck at home. They were like ten years old when they started their journey.
It wasn't fair. I wanted to go out and start my own journey. I've always dreamed of becoming Kanto's Champion.
"Mika?"
I looked up, recognizing the voice.
"Lance?"
I was surprised he was even here. He's always so busy.
"Mom went out to the store this morning," He said, sitting on my plush chair by my desk. "She called me and told me that you guys got into an argument and you still haven't spoken to her,"
I sighed, turning the volume down on the TV. I already knew that she probably told him to talk to me. We've always been close.
"I'm sure you know why," I replied.
He didn't say anything, which meant that he wanted me to tell my side of the story.
"No Mika," Mom shook her head. "You can't go,"
"But I already applied for my Pokemon Trainer's license!" I retorted. "It just came in the mail today!"
"You didn't even tell me you were going to take it," Mom replied, taking the envelope from my hand. "I didn't give you permission,"
"Why are you being so stubborn? Why can't I go? Ash is going, and even Gary is!" I started to raise my voice.
She was making me angry.
She didn't reply and continued to stir the soup she was making that was on the stove. "Just because your friends are going, it doesn't mean that you can,"
I slammed my hands on the counter. "Professor Oak is giving everyone starters tomorrow. Just let me go! You let Lance and Stella go, so why can't I? Even our cousin in Johto went when she was younger than me!"
She didn't reply and turned the heat down on the stove. She put the envelope in the junk drawer and started walking out of the kitchen.
I hopped off the barstool, following her upstairs. "Mom,"
"Mika, I already told you my answer, which is no. I'm not changing my answer."
"Give me one valid reason why I can't go!"
"Because I said so."
I stormed off to my room and slammed my door. I put my hands in my face, huffing in exasperation. It just wasn't fair. She won't even give me a reason!
"And that's what happened," I finished telling Lance the story. "Professor Oak has already given pokemon to other people and now I'm missing out. I just want to go and start my own journey already. I've been dreaming about this since I was a child, and now it's starting to look like I won't be able to do that until I'm like eighteen or something,"
Lance stayed silent and I noticed that he looked like he was lost in his thoughts.
"Were you even listening?" I sweat drop.
He turned his gaze to me. "I was,"
"So? What did she want you to say to me? I know she called you here to talk to me,"
