I woke up in the room I stayed at in the Pokemon Center when I heard the phone ringing, which was a wake-up call I requested. I groggily answered it.

"Hello?"

"Good morning, Mika!" Nurse Joy said cheerfully. "I did the wake-up call as you requested and your pokemon are all ready to go!"

"Thank you," I replied, still groggily.

I got up and Charmander helped me pack my bag. After we were ready, I exited the room and went to Nurse Joy to get my pokeballs. She gave me a polite smile. I didn't understand how she managed to be so cheerful this early in the morning.

"We hope to see you again!" She said, turning the other way to take care of some stuff in the back.

Once I exited the Pokemon Center, I took a deep breath, inhaling the coastal air. I've always loved the smell of the coastal air since I grew up in Pallet Town. Cerulean City looked peaceful. I headed over to the gym and for some reason, it looked dark inside.

I pushed on the door, seeing that it opened and it creaked. That's ominous.

The lights flickered on and a young boy wearing a black shirt with an "R" on the chest looked just as startled as I was.

"W-What? How did you get in here?!" He hesitated for a moment. "I...you won't catch me!"

He suddenly started running and pushed past me. I knew this person was up to no good, so I sprinted off after him. I wasn't dumb. I knew he was from Team Rocket.

"It's no use! You won't outrun me!" I shouted while running after the Team Rocket grunt. "What are you hiding?!"

Of course, with my luck, I ran into someone, causing me to fall on my behind. I heard the person fall on their behind too.

"Hey, what the heck? Watch it!"

I instantly recognized that voice.

I looked up and Gary then saw it was just me. He looked confused and annoyed. "Why were you running like that? You need to watch it, loser,"

"You were the one in MY way, Gary," I retort. "And again, none of your business!"

I knew it was my fault, but when he starts talking to me like that, I couldn't help the reaction I had. Also, I didn't want to involve him in the issues I've been having with Team Rocket. It was way too much to explain.

"So," Gary smirked. "Since you bumped into me, you have to battle me now,"

"Gary, I really don't have time-"

He grabbed a pokeball before I could finish that sentence. I just sighed. I hope that Rocket grunt didn't get too far away.

"Abra, go!" Gary said.

"Dratini, go!"

"Abra, use quick attack," Gary said with determination.

Abra quickly moved and attacked Dratini.

"Dratini, use dragon rush!"

Dratini attacked, but Abra teleported away.

"Damn," I hissed under my breath. I took my Pokedex out to get information on Abra and it told me that Abra can teleport away since it can sense impending danger.

Gary still had that stupid smirk on his face. "I knew that your victory back in Pewter City was a fluke. You're weaker than I thought,"

"Oh shut up," I rolled my eyes.

"Abra, use psybeam!"

A bright beam of light hit Dratini, sending her flying back onto the bridge. She got up instantly and gave me a look as if she was telling me that she was fine.

"Dratini, use hyper beam!"

A bright beam of light came from her mouth and hit the Abra, but not to the point of defeat.

"Abra, use confusion," Gary said.

Dratini was confused and she had to recharge from hyper beam. Great.

Gary used this opportunity to attack her again. "Abra, psybeam!"

Dratini was now low on health. I decided to send her back since she was confused.

"Dratini, return. Go, Pidgey!"

"Pidgey, use gust!"

Pidgey flapped his wings, sending powerful wind towards Abra. Abra took damage.

"Okay Abra, use future sight!" Gary said.

I didn't know what this move was, but I used it to attack it again. "Pidgey, use quick attack!"

Pidgey attacked with full force, knocking the Abra over. It fainted, but Pidgey still took damage. I was confused now, so Gary decided to tell me what the move was.

"Future sight is a move where the attacker foresees an attack. Then it attacks the opponent if you're lucky enough you can make your attacker faint," He explained. I didn't reply, but I understood now.

He sent out a Pidgeotto after that.

"Pidgey, use quick attack!"

Pidgey attacked the Pigeotto quickly and surprisingly did a lot of damage.

"Use whirlwind!" Gary shouted.

We both had to shield our eyes from the dust. Once the dust was gone, Pidgey looked like he was caught off guard.

After a few more attacks, Pidgey was on the verge of fainting. Then, he suddenly froze and light started shining from him. I was baffled as an unfamiliar cry came out and the light was gone. He was now a Pidgeotto.

I smiled with pride.

"Okay Pidgeotto, use gust!" I said.

Gary's Pidgeotto fainted and he looked annoyed now.

"So, my victory back there was a fluke, huh?" I quipped.

Gary snorted. "Don't get so smug. Go, Rattata!"

Pidgeotto defeated the Ratatta and then Gary sent out his last pokemon, which was a Squirtle. I used Charmander for this battle, then won.

"Whatever," Gary snorted again. "I'll beat you next time,"

"That's what you said last time, Gary," I smirked at him.

He suddenly started reaching in his pocket and handed over some device to me. "This is a fame checker. A chatty gossip like you will need it. Smell ya later!"

I fumed at his insults. Chatty gossip? I'm NOT a chatty gossip.

After he left, I decided to use a potion on my pokemon and continued on to follow that boy from earlier. I knew he was up to no good.
