(3rd Person POV)

"I can do this..." Kidou firmly told himself as he walked towards (Y/n) who had her back on him.

"I can do this..." he repeated, gathering up all his courage and walking a bit faster.

"I can do this..." Kidou said once more as he stopped right behind (Y/n). He clenched his fists and tried to open his mouth.

"Shit... I can't do this!" he yelled in a whisper and walked away from her.

Kidou walked back to the team and was about to lie that he had already finished the dare but the look on his face unmasked the reality of his current situation.

"No, no, no, Kidou. You have to do it. A dare is a dare," Endou told Kidou.

"Man, I can't. Can I forfeit?" Kidou asked, scratching the back of his head.

"Well, we can't force him if he really won't. That's minus ten points for you, Kidou," Kazemaru said.

10 points were a lot to lose. But the fear of rejection may be heavier to bear. "Fine," Kidou said, giving up. He looked at (Y/n) and his heart sank. He knew that he needed more time before he could confess. And today is not yet the right time. But little did he know that (Y/n) is under the same circumstances as he is.

(Your POV)

You gulped and forced to prevent a tear from falling. Your hands trembled as you scrolled through the updates on your phone. You were looking at something which is not so interesting but why were you still looking at it anyway? You've lost total interest, true. Because you have seen that the guy who has captured your heart is now in a relationship with someone else.

Gouenji Shuuya is in a relationship with Otonashi Haruna. The text was relatively small but it appeared ten times larger for your eyes. It came along with a photo of Gouenji and Otonashi together with their hands locked. You didn't bother to give much attention on the seemingly unhappy look on Gouenji's face. What you've seen and read is enough to break your heart into several uneven pieces.

You closed your eyes and forced the incessant tear back to where it came from before dropping your phone in your bag and leaving.

As you walked out of the school gate, a nervous voice startled you.

"Hey, (Y/n). You going home?" you turned to see Kidou, hands in his pockets and an expression that's hard to read.

"Yeah," you said with a smile.

"Mind if I walk with you?" Kidou offered.

"Of course not. Let's go," you said and Kidou smiled as he walked next to you.

"So uhh... Congratulations to your sister's new relationship," you said out of the blue.

"Yeah," was all that Kidou said which is a little surprising for you. You least expected him to sound so calm and okay about it. You sighed and felt your heart ache at the thought once again, not realizing that a tear that you've been keeping had successfully made its way down your cheek.

"(Y/n)... are you okay?" Kidou asked as he noticed the substance trickling down your face.

"Yes," you tried to force a smile but you could no longer help it. You stopped in your tracks and dropped your face on your hands. Sobs went out in a muffled tone one by one.

"(Y/n)... what's wrong?" Kidou was alarmed and although he hesitated, he held your shoulders with his hands.

You wiped your tears and avoided Kidou's look. "Nothing... I... I'm sorry."

Kidou cupped your face and brushed a thumb over your cheek. "It's alright," he assured you and pulled you close to a hug.

You could hear his heart beating and you could tell that he seemed nervous. What it meant is not important right now, but in this moment you felt secure and comfortable in Kidou's hold.

"Can I do something to make you happy?" he asked while you still hugged.

"You already did..." you said as a smile formed on your lips and the hurt was replaced with something lighter.

"I'm not very good at this (Y/n), I'm sorry. But I assure you... I will do my best to prevent you from getting hurt."

"Thank you, Kidou..."

You felt something soft on your forehead and your heart almost leapt at the security you felt in Kidou's presence. Perhaps there is an open door to another heart for you after all.

~Alternate Ending - when you end up with Gouenji~

As you walked out of the school gate, you saw the person you least wanted to see that day. Gouenji Shuuya. He was at the gate and seemed to be waiting for someone.

You ignored his presence and walked past him but a strong arm stopped you.

"(Y/n)," Gouenji said and his eyes looked hopefully into yours.

"Can I help you?" you said, trying to avoid any hurt from overtaking you.

"It's not true," he said.

"What's not true?" you asked, confused.

"Me and Otonashi. It was all a dare."

"I don't know and I don't care about what you're saying," you firmly said and snapped your arm away. "Why are you even telling me that? What am I to you?" you said to yourself but Gouenji heard you.

"Because I know how you feel about me and I feel the same way too."

You stopped and turned to Gouenji. "What are you saying?"

"(Y/n), please believe Gouenji. It was all a dare from the team," you turned and saw Otonashi smiling at you.

Gouenji walked in your direction and took your hand. "(Y/n) I'm sorry but I----"

You cut him off by leaning over to kiss him. He was startled but after a moment he kissed you back.

"I love you too. Please don't do something like that again. You have no idea how much it pained me," you said.

"I'm sorry. I will never hurt you," Gouenji said before pulling you into a tight embrace.

Gin: And... it's a tie!!! So how do we settle this? Hmm... rock, paper scissors!

Kidou: That's enough, Gin. You need to sleep.

Gin: I guess you're right.

Gouenji: Good night, Gin.
