Darkness

Before my darkest hour
The sun said goodbye
And then disappeared
Leaving me to die
But I didn't
Against all odds I survived
And in the darkness
My demons thrived
Until I almost gave in
To the beckoning night
To the endless tunnel
With only blackness in sight
But when the shadows attempted
To extinguish my soul
They found that they couldn't
Reduce it to coal
It appears I had gotten
So lost in the night
That when the the stars appeared
I failed to see their light
I was so accustomed to the darkness
Wrapped around my skin
That I had inexplicably become blind
To the fire burning within
