alone in a crowded room
my nails are jagged and bitten to stubs
your words are sharp knives against my skin
and the sharpest cutlery pierces my back
i look outside trying to make the rain calm me
i can not and should not answer back
the thunder comes rolling in and my hands are itching to reply to you
there's a loud boom
and i grab my phone urgently as i spot your name in my contacts
tears roll down my cheeks
i do not stand up for myself
instead i submit to you and apologize for your wrongdoings
big, fat tears are making splotches on my screen and the wetness makes my vision blurry
i hit send
and watch as your reply dings in
i commit more and more to you
should i stand up for myself
or make this misery keep happening in front of my own two eyes
towards my friends
if i say anything your knights and jokers are by your side
and would do anything to protect their "queen"
i stand in the shadows waiting one day for bravery
