Lyric pushed the shopping cart around the grocery store while her father threw things in the basket.
"Were moms cravings this bad with me? I mean who honestly puts olives on peanut butter??" Lyric asked scrunching up her face.
"Oh they were worse. Much worse. She used to dip pickles in peanut butter with you." Darren replied. Lyric made a gagging noise.
"So gross." she mumbled.
"So who all are you inviting to the new years party tonight?" Darren asked.
"Probably just Tink, Jefferson, Will and Victor if that's okay. They're the only friends I have." Lyric shrugged
"Oh you and Will still talk?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"And the new boyfriend doesn't have a problem with this?" Darren asked.
"Uh.. no I don't think so?"
"Why don't you invite him?" Darren asked.
"Dad we've talked about this. I don't want him to meet you guys yet." Lyric sighed.
"Why not?"
"Because. I..just don't. Okay?"
"Fine. I swear you and your mother are in sync with your moods today." He sighed as they turned the corner.
"Hey, look it's Mr. Jones." Darren pointed. Lyrics eyes darted up as she saw Killian standing in the produce section. She smiled but her smile quickly faded when she watched a woman walk up to him and tap him on the shoulder she looked like she was asking a question, Killian pointed to the object she was looking for, and that should have been the end of it except the woman kept talking with him and smiling. She twirled her blonde hair in her fingers. Killian smiled back and scratched behind his ear. Lyric watched the two of them talking and couldn't help but feel a little jealous as Killian's smile was his typical flirty smile. That was her flirty smile, and her Killian.
"Why don't you go say hi? Maybe you can invite him and his brother to the party tonight?" Darren asked. Lyric shook her head.
"I..don't want to bother him dad he looks busy. Can we just go?" She asked.
"Yeah I think we're done here. Don't let me forget to stop and get your mothers cheeseburger from grannys. I do not want to die." Darren chuckled.
"Yea. okay." Lyric said while still watching Killian and the woman. She wrote something down on a piece of paper and handed it to him and he put it in his pocket. Lyric felt her heart sink. Of course he would. The woman was pretty and most importantly, she was older.
"You okay Lyric?" Darren asked.
"Yeah. Lets just go." She said snapping out of it and pushing the cart to the checkouts.☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
"Just call him." Tink said as Lyric angrily prepared party snacks in the kitchen.
"Why would I call him?" Lyric asked. "He's probably too busy calling produce barbie." She grumbled.
"Or, you are way over thinking things as usual." Tink suggested. Lyric shrugged.
"Is it so hard to believe that he would want someone older? Someone who isn't his student, someone who doesn't have a curfew?"
"Come on Lyric you know Killian wouldn't do that to you. He's crazy about you. Hell I never get to see you anymore because he kidnaps you all the time."
"I know.. But she wrote something and handed it to him and he put it in his pocket, and he gave her that flirty smile that he's so good at."
"You are looking way to into it. That's just the way he smiles." Tink sighed and carried a tray of food and set it down on the coffee table and slapped Jefferson's hand away from it.
"Ow..babe."
"That's for the party." Tink said.
"When is this party going to start?" Will asked.
"As soon as my dad gets back" Lyric replied and brought the rest of the food in the room. "I Know it's not nearly as cool as the party Ruby is throwing but I do appreciate you showing up even if it's just us and a few of my parents friends."
"What are friends for?" Will asked with a smirk.
"Is Victor coming or is he staying at Ruby's?" Tink asked.
"Ruby would kill him if he left." Jefferson laughed. Lyric giggled and watched as the front door opened.
"Finally, You took forever!" Lyric said as her Dad walked into the house with some of his friends from work and then she saw Liam walk in and then Killian.
"Hope you don't mind partying with your teacher." Darren smirked.
"Hi..Mr. Jones.." Lyric said and glanced down.
"Hey." He smiled.
"Is your mom still laying down?" Darren asked.
"Yeah. I can go see if she wants to get up." Lyric suggested.
"No it's fine, I will. You hang out with your friends." Darren said and walked down the hallway.☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Everyone was laughing and having a good time. It was about 10 minutes to midnight. Killian noticed that there was something off about Lyric. She would hardly look at him and it couldn't have been that she was just trying to keep her parents from finding out.
"I'm going to step outside for a minute." Lyric said.
"Everything okay?" Sarah asked.
"Yeah mom. I just need some air." Lyric smiled and got up and opened the front door stepping outside.
"She okay?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, Yeah. Lyric sometimes gets overwhelmed when there are a lot of people around." Darren said. "Shes fine. She'll be back in a minute." He smiled. Liam nudged his brothers shoulder when no one was looking gesturing for him to go spend some time alone with Lyric while he could. Killian pat his pockets.
"I think I left my phone in the car..I'll be right back." Killian said and stood up and walked outside. Lyric was standing on the front porch leaning over the rail looking at the sky.
"Hey.." Killian said and stood beside her. She glanced at him and then back at the sky.
"Hey." She replied.
"What's wrong?" Killian asked.
"Nothing." Lyric shrugged.
"I know better, you haven't looked at me all night." Killian said and put his hands in his pockets.
"I'm trying to keep my parents from finding out about us." Lyric said but she still refused to look at him.
"We are alone now and you still won't look at me. Talk to me Lyric, whats wrong?"
"Are you sure I am what you want?" Lyric asked.
"Of course I'm sure. Where is this coming from love?" Killian asked.
"It's just.. I'm 17 Killian, you're 25. Don't you want someone who doesn't have to hide you from their family, someone who isn't your student?"
"Are you having second thoughts?" Killian asked. "Because I'm not. Seriously what brought this on?"
"The girl who gave you her phone number at the grocery store today." Lyric mumbled. "She was pretty, Older..Probably doesn't have a midnight curfew."
"That is what has got you so upset? You saw me in the store earlier?" Killian asked.
"Why wouldn't I be upset Killian?" Lyric asked and walked off of the porch. Killian followed her
"Because She gave me her phone number, to contact me for guitar lessons for her son. And maybe if you would have looked a little closer, you would have seen the wedding ring on her finger. Do you honestly think I would do that to you?"
"I don't know." Lyric shrugged.
"Well I wouldn't." Killian said. "I love you. I don't care that you are only 17, I don't care that you are my student. I told you I was in this for the long run and if that's not what you want anymore you need to let me know."
"Of course that's what I want Killian.. I'm sorry Tink was right, I was over thinking."
"You tend to do that." Killian smiled.
"I can't help it." Lyric sighed. She could hear everyone counting down the seconds until midnight in the living room.
Killian pulled her close
"Five" He said.
"Four" Lyric smiled.
"Three"
"Two"
"One." Killian grinned and crashed his lips into hers. Lyric put her arms around her neck and Killian lifted her off of the ground and pulled away smiling at her.
"Happy New Year Love."
Lyric pressed her forehead to his. "Happy New Year."
"I guess we should get back inside before they send a search party." Killian said and set Lyric down the two of them turned to go inside but stopped dead in their tracks realizing they were not alone.
"M..Mom.." Lyric stuttered out.
