Song of the chapter is Fall Out Boy's 'The Kids Aren't Alright'
Picture is of Sasha Pieterse who plays Mackenzie Rivers (in my head lol).
CHAPTER FOUR
Mackenzie Rivers turned up at my front door after almost a week of ignoring her. I had decided that my friendship with Tyler was more important to me than my friendship with her. Despite Tyler being fourteen, he and I were still in the same year group as he was born in July. This made it easier to drift away from Mackenzie and her group as I was never alone. Tyler and I would hang out at lunch, sometimes with some of his friends, and in most of my classes, we were allowed to pick where we sat so I took a closer interest in getting to class early with Tyler and sat with him. He definitely noticed that I was avoiding Mackenzie as in that week I had been spending more time with him so he asked me more questions than normal about Mackenzie. I think he thought that we had fought and so he tried to check if I was okay.
At the time, I remember getting annoyed with him as to my thirteen year old mind; he was too concerned with Mackenzie which probably showed that he liked her more than me.
How naive. On the night she turned up, Mackenzie knocked on my door and my brother Chase answered. She was crying hysterically and since she was obsessed with make-up she had large black lines running down her face. As well as that, her clothes were bloody and she was looking a little battered up. I remember my brother bringing her into the house and trying to calm her down while he shouted for my mum and dad. I wanted to know what was going on that was apparently so urgent so I took off from the living room where we had all been sitting watching a movie and Jack followed.
Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. Despite Mackenzie being really bitchy at times, I still saw her as a friend and ignoring her had been difficult. When I saw her covered in blood, I began to panic. Chase was also freaking out and Jack was just standing there, staring helplessly much like the rest of us. The only one who managed to take control of the situation was my dad. I guess being a doctor gives you experience on how to deal with these sort of circumstances.
My dad lifted the thin girl into his arms and proceeded to carry her into the kitchen. He ordered my mum to get her some clothes of mine for her to change into while trying to calm Mackenzie down, which was no easy task. After he managed to get her to calm down to a state where he could question what was wrong with her and ask her if the blood was hers.
"N-n-no, it's-it's my daddy's," she stuttered out between sobs.
I felt so helpless. This was my friend and something was wrong. Something was very wrong.
"Mackenzie, listen to me, you need to stop crying or we can't help you! Just breathe in and out- yes that's it, now deep breaths," My dad continued trying to get her to calm down enough so she could explain.
"Lydia! It's her! She-she went crazy! I don't know she was talking so fast and saying all these things and she just ran-she just ran at him and then there was blood everywhere and he was coughing and he told me to run so I did! I ran and now he's on his own with her and she's-she's going to kill him and I don't know what to do! Please you have to help him! She's gone crazy!" She said frantically as she made a move to jump of the counter before my dad placed her back on it.
My dad shouted for my mum to call the police and an ambulance. Once he knew there was nothing wrong with Mackenzie he said he was going to go down and see if Mr Rivers was okay. Of course my mum started to argue and then Chase got involved.
