Chapter 1
Seokjin had been so used to the tiredness that has made its home in his bones for the past week of struggling with his finals that when he drives his car back to his apartment after his last exam without the voice at the back of his head nagging at him to be productive, it feels kind of new.
It’s not Seokjin’s first time with having such a hell of a week—finals week come and go for students all the time, but being a graduating student with a major whose required subjects demand for too many projects at a short time frame has left him feeling like he’s had put too much on his plate and that he can’t move around it. He barely had any time to talk to his boyfriend given that they’re both suffering through the pains of finals, and more often than not, Seokjin found himself ranting to Jimin on the phone about his group mates or the actors for the last film he’s shooting as an undergraduate, or their professor who gives way too much workload for his own good.
But Jimin was patient, and he listened to Seokjin’s rants—even laughed at the unexpected dad jokes that Seokjin suddenly added in their conversation to lighten up the mood a bit, even if some of them sounded cringey to his own ears. “Just a few more days before you can take a rest, hyung.” Jimin would always say, and even when he wasn’t physically present as he was slaving away on his own with mountains of notes and highlighted pages of biology text books, the reassurance in his voice was enough.
Seokjin taps the steering wheel of his car, humming a song that Jimin had recommended him months ago. They haven’t been able to see each other for a full week, so when Jimin had texted him that he wants to come over, Seokjin had replied back with an enthusiastic “sure”, complete with a set of heart emojis. Jimin had spare keys to his apartment, so he wasn’t worried about Jimin having to wait outside, and Jimin sending him a selfie of himself in lying down on top of Seokjin’s couch and captioning it with “it’s boring without you here, hyung” only confirms that he’s already making himself at home in Seokjin’s apartment.
“And it feels like he belongs there, too,” A voice at the back of Seokjin’s mind says, but he ignores this in favour of replying with, “If you’re hungry, just go order takeout. I’ll be there in a few.”
His phone buzzes a few seconds later, but he doesn’t get to read it until just before he pulls up at the driveway in front of his apartment. “I already bought groceries hyung. Don’t worry, I’ll cook.” It reads, and Seokjin perks up at the mention of this. He hasn’t eaten anything yet that Jimin has cooked since it’s mostly the other way around (well, except for that one time when Jimin cooked some pasta for their small group of friends, but Taehyung had been his cooking assistant, and Taehyung had overestimated himself and poured a huge amount of salt into the pasta even when it wasn’t needed, so things obviously didn’t end well), and although he knows Jimin is not a kitchen disaster like Namjoon, he sure does hope that Jimin cooks nice because he’s completely hungry.
