Summary:

Sometimes bad thoughts enter Jimin's head, but Hoseok makes sure to chase them away

--

One of the countless things Hoseok loves about Jimin is the way he wears his emotions on his sleeve. It’s so honest, in a sweet way. When Jimin is happy or excited he just can’t seem to keep the smile from his face and it’s always as infectious, making Hoseok smile along with him.

And then there are the times when Jimin is upset, seeking out comfort like oxygen. It’s something that has happened from time to time since they started dating, but even now it’s not as easy as Hoseok would wish to get Jimin to tell him what’s wrong. He can easily tell when his boyfriend is feeling down, but when he attempts to talk about it Jimin mostly puts on a brave face, telling Hoseok that it’s fine and that he’ll get over it.

This time is no different. Jimin had come home being more clingy than usual, crawling into Hoseok’s embrace at every opportunity but still looking heartbreakingly melancholic. Hoseok indulges him, not that it’s very hard, kissing him whenever he gets a chance to, holding him extra close just because he knows that Jimin needs it. Except this time, Hoseok has an idea of what Jimin’s downtrodden mood is about. Jimin had only mentioned it in passing, that Taehyung had broken up with his boyfriend, but Hoseok is well aware of just how empathetic Jimin can be with these things.

At first he waits Jimin out, thinking that maybe he’ll start feeling better once he’s processed it a bit. But even three days later he finds Jimin curling up close enough at night as to not leave a single inch between their bodies, letting their good-bye kisses linger extra long even when Hoseok’s just running down to the store to pick up some milk.

He decides to bring it up one evening when Jimin has made himself at home in Hoseok’s lap as they watch TV, Jimin’s head resting against Hoseok’s shoulder and Hoseok’s thumb tracing patterns against the exposed skin of Jimin’s hip.

“You seem upset lately,” Hoseok says, and he can immediately feel Jimin shifting in his lap. “Is it about Taehyung?”

“Yeah,” Jimin replies. For a little while he is quiet, then, “Sort of.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

Just as Hoseok predicted, Jimin just shakes his head marginally. “It’s nothing.”

“It’s obviously something,” Hoseok says. “Baby, I want you to tell me about these things. Double the happiness and split the sadness, right? I want you to share things with me, especially if there’s something making you feel bad.”

They’ve been over this before, times when Jimin was stuck in a spiral of negative thoughts that he couldn’t seem to break himself out of and didn’t want to tell Hoseok about. Once Hoseok found out he had kept assuring Jimin that he wasn’t going to leave just because it wasn’t all sunshine, that he’s going to be by Jimin’s side through thick and thin.

He presses a kiss against the top of Jimin’s head. It makes Jimin tilt his head up, lean in to kiss Hoseok softly with a hand coming up to rest against his chest. Then Jimin withdraws, only slightly.

“I just keep having these stupid thoughts,” he says eventually. “When they broke up, it got me really scared. They always seemed so happy, I thought they were gonna be together for a long time.”
