“Can I paint on your back?” Taehyung asks his boyfriend one lazy Sunday, as he’s running his fingers along Jimin’s side. They’ve decided to stay in today, their favorite show playing on the television in their shared room. Jimin lets out a giggle as Taehyung’s fingers slide past that ticklish spot on his sides, before answering, “What do you mean?” His gaze is filled with curiosity and amusement as he turns to give his full attention to the younger boy.
“Are you sitting on my back and painting?” He asks, not fully understanding what his boyfriend was asking him.
“No,” Taehyung grins softly, “Can I paint on you? Like, using your back as my canvas?” Jimin’s nose scrunches up at the suggestion, “Won’t that leave a mess?” He whines, not entirely sure he wants to replace their bedsheets (again). Taehyung grins wider, knowing he could persuade the shorter boy.
“Please, Chim? I’ll put down a towel and we can take a shower after,” He winked, pushing the comforter off of himself and sitting up. Jimin is silent for a few moments then glances up and props himself up on his elbows.
“Where do you want me?” Taehyung grins, knowing he’s won his lover over. He pushes the comforter off of the bed completely, the soft blankets hitting the floor silently. He then turns back to his boyfriend and motions for him to lay on his stomach. He leans over to him, pecking Jimin on the lips before scampering off to find his paint. Of course, Taehyung knows should us like, body paint or something, but they didn’t have any in stock at the local art store, so Taehyung decided his acrylic paints would do the trick just as well. Jimin waited patiently on the bed, listening to whatever rerun episode of their favorite show was playing on their television. The two boys had been dating for 5 years now, and living together for 2, yet Jimin was still pleasantly surprised by the ideas that Taehyung came up with. He sighed into the bedsheets as his energetic boyfriend came bounding back into the room with his art supplies and a towel in hand. It was all Jimin could do not to stare fondly at him as he shuffled over and began placing the supplies on the bed. Taehyung’s hair was a messy brown nest on his head- he hadn’t bothered to brush it out on their day in- and Jimin couldn’t stop admiring him. He loved the spark in his boyfriends’ eyes as he excitedly set out his paints and brushes, along with a water cup on their night stand. Jimin situated himself, pulling the towel beneath him in case Taehyung got a bit too crazy with the paint.
“Okay, let’s do this!” Taehyung exclaimed excitedly before hopping up onto the bed and straddling Jimin’s waist. He settled into place sitting on his boyfriend’s butt, eliciting a snort of laughter from the both of them.
Then he got to work. Taehyung began by tickling a wet brush along Jimin’s side, causing him to giggle and squirm, until he almost knocked the paints off the bed. Taehyung dipped his brush in blue paint before delicately beginning to paint. Jimin had absolutely no idea what he was painting, to him it just felt like he was doing random squiggles, maybe a nature scene?
Jimin twisted his head so that his cheek was on the bed and he could see the reflection of Tae and their tv in their vanity mirror. The vanity set used to sit in Jimin’s bedroom back when he was rooming with his best friend Hoseok. Jimin thought back to when the two of them would do their makeup and go out to all sorts of clubs and dance parties when they were in their first two years of university. When Taehyung and Yoongi, two secretly soft Daegu boys, moved into the apartment beside them, their lives changed forever. Hoseok and Yoongi hit it off right away, leaving Jimin jealous of whoever was stealing his best friend. Jimin began to feel animosity towards Yoongi and Taehyung once Hoseok cancelled on his plans with Jimin to see Yoongi for the fourth time that month. Taehyung, however, was excited for the new friendship. He’d never really seen Yoongi matched so perfectly. Hoseok kept Yoongi above ground and Yoongi, in turn, kept Hoseok out of the clouds. Although he thought the couple was great together, he also felt a bit left out. That’s when he began seeking out Jimin. Park Jimin, being the stubborn boy he was, kept his disdain for his two Daegu neighbors known, and tried his best to ignore Taehyung’s friendship advances. But, once he reluctantly agreed to meet Taehyung for coffee he realized just how beautiful the other boy was. Jimin quickly got over his jealousy as his interest in Taehyung grew, the younger boy never failing to amuse or surprise him. Eventually the started dating, and somewhere along the line he fell head over heels for the beautiful Daegu boy.
“Am I boring you?” Jimin snapped out of his reminiscing at the sound of his boyfriends deep voice.
“No, not at all, this feels really nice.” He closed his eyes and to Taehyung continue his painting, before asking, “What are you painting anyways?” The boy on his back giggled, the laughter causing Jimin’s own body to tingle from the vibration.
“Actually, I’m done. Do you wanna see it?” Jimin nodded before getting off the bed with the help of his boyfriend. Taehyung handed him a smaller mirror so he could look at the reflection of the larger mirror without straining his neck.
Painted across his back were the words ‘PARK JIMIN, WILL YOU MARRY ME?’
Jimin let out a soft gasp, his hand coming to rest over his mouth as he looked at Taehyung, who was now getting down on one knee in front of him.
“Park Jimin,” Taehyung began, both of their eyes beginning to water already, “You’ve been my rock for the last five years. I could count on you when I couldn’t count on anyone else. You’ve been my soul partner forever, I believe. I think we’ve always been together in all of our past lives, so it feels only natural for me to ask you If you’ll be with me for all of this lifetime as well. Will you marry me?” Taehyung finishes, pulling a ring out of his pocket and offering it to the stunned boy in front of him.
Jimin wiped away his tears before nodding, and crying some more, “Tae, I can’t believe you, I love you so much,” he wiped at his eyes as he accepted the ring and put it onto his finger. “Of course I’ll marry you.” Taehyung then stands, the box for the ring forgotten, and he pulls Jimin into his arms as they cry together, pausing only to catch each other lips quickly a few times. They stay like this for awhile before remembering the paint still occupying Jimin’s back.
Taehyung pulls Jimin towards the bathroom, and the two kiss before getting into the shower together for the first time as fiancee’s.
