"Are you alright Jonathan?," Evan asked while sitting at the table and eating dinner with him, "You've been rather quiet."
"Oh," Jonathan offered a small smile, "I'm just a little tired. Been walking a lot today."
"Yeah; by the way, I have to go out again tonight. You'll be ok on your own?"
"Mhm."
Evan smiled at him, taking both of their empty plates away. Jonathan was still scared after seeing what the mirror showed him. He couldn't help but now feel unsafe around Evan.
He's a fucking vampire, he said to himself, I knew there was something off about him.
Evan came back out and escorted Jonathan up to his bedroom.
"G'night Jonathan," Evan said.
"Night Evan," Jonathan repeated.
Once Evan has closed the door Jonathan got into some comfortable clothes and waited for a while. Hours later he heard the front door open, swinging the door open and racing down the steps to see Evan hauling in a rather large animal, a stag to be exact, but its neck was dripping blood; and Evan's mouth was dripping blood as well. He looked up and saw a terrified Jonathan at the top of the stairs.
"Oh god," Evan dropped the animal, "Jonathan! I-It isn't-"
"No!," Jonathan shouted, "What the fuck did you do?! What the fuck are you?!"
"Jonathan, let me explain."
Evan had his hands up as if defending himself as he walked up the stairs slowly. Jonathan was breathing rapidly as he looked like a frightened animal that had no way of escape. Evan could see Jonathan's fear in his baby-blue eyes.
"Jonathan," Evan reached out, "I'm not gonna-"
Jonathan slapped Evan's hand away hard.
"Get away from me!," Jonathan screamed, running past him.
"Jonathan wait!"
Jonathan ran out the front door and over a stone bridge that had a trail of blood from the stag.
"Jonathan! Stop!"
Jonathan didn't stop sprinting, even though his feet were cold and beginning to lose breath. A stray branch left a small cut on his cheek as he skidded to a stop and jumped up; he grabbed a branch of a tree and climbed up. He spotted Evan slowing to a halt as the footprints ended. Evan then sniffed around, seeing a bit of Jonathan's blood on the small twig. He continued sniffing around until looking up into the tree and seeing Jonathan.
"Shit!," Jonathan screamed.
He jumped off, rolled, and continued to run.
"Jonathan stop!," Evan raced after him, "Wait!"
Jonathan continued to run before skidding to a stop at the icy river where he crossed from before. He was already cold, and he knew he would freeze. He looked back to see Evan stopping, and seeing what Jonathan was thinking.
"Jonathan," Evan approached slowly, "Please just come back with me, I can explain. I swear on my life I will not and never will hurt you."
Jonathan looked back down at the river and back up at Evan. Everything went in slow motion as Jonathan whipped around, Evan rushing up to get him. Jonathan leapt into the river, not remembering about how fast it was. He gasped as he attempted to find his footing and swim, but was being swept away. Evan raced along side the river and seeing Jonathan struggling to keep his head up.
Jonathan coughed and sputtered as he looked to see a waterfall coming up. He managed to take hold of a boulder's edge, dangling off its side where if he let go he would surely die.
"Jonathan!," Evan cried out.
He leapt from the banks and onto the rock. Jonathan's fingers slipped, but was happy that there was a branch underneath it; it wasn't going to stay strong enough for long.
"Jonathan!," Evan reached down, "Grab my hand!"
Jonathan looked down before looking back up with salty tears.
"Where's Luke?," he asked.
Evan felt pain in his heart grow.
"Where is he?," Jonathan croaked
"I...," Evan shook his head, "I couldn't find him."
"You're lying."
"I'm not! I went to go look that night you went wandering around! I couldn't find him! I tried and I tried, but I couldn't! I couldn't..."
Evan had tears coming out from his eyes as Jonathan looked up at him.
"Please," Evan begged, "Please just take my hand...Please."
Jonathan was silent for a moment before reaching up; just as their fingertips brushed the branch snapped.
"AAAHHHH!," Jonathan screamed as he fell.
"JONATHAN!," Evan screamed, diving down and morphing into an owl.
Jonathan was free falling as he spotted the owl flying towards him and morphing back into Evan. Evan embraced Jonathan and held him tight.
"Take a deep breath!," he shouted.
Jonathan did that, feeling the icy water surround them as they landed in the water below. It was all quiet until Evan shot out from the water, carrying an unconscious Jonathan with him as he got out of the frigid waters.
"Jonathan," he held the brunette close, "Wake up, it's going to be ok, wake up, please."
Jonathan shivered violently as his eyes fluttered open. Evan held him closely.
"Oh thank god," he breathed out.
"E-E-E-Ev-v-v-van-an-an?," Jonathan stuttered out.
"Yes?"
"I-I-I-I-I-I-I wi-will-ill k-k-k-ki-kill y-y-y-you-ou la-la-ter."
Evan let out out a breathy laugh; he then looked up and let out a long whistle. Four wolves came running in, sniffing at the man in Evan's arms and even licking his face.
"Help me get him back," Evan whispered to them.
The wolves helped find a better way crossing back over the river, one of them sprinting ahead. Evan held Jonathan in his arms as he prayed for Jonathan to still be alive. The wolf who ran ahead came back with a blanket in its jaws, handing it to Evan who wrapped it tightly around Jonathan. Evan can now see the hidden pathway that lead back to the castle.
"We're almost there," he whispered in Jonathan's ear.
One of the wolves looked over in a direction and growled lowly. Evan looked over and saw a person wrapped in a black cloak walking away and deep into the woods. Evan nodded to three of the wolves to go out and keep the area surrounded, one of the wolves still keeping with Evan as they walked to the castle. He brought the wolf in as well when they finally made it back. Jonathan was already asleep, breathing peacefully and steadily.
Evan brought him upstairs into his room and dressed in some dry warm clothes, doing the same for himself. He tucked Jonathan into his bed and turned to the wolf.
"Go cuddle with him for a bit," he ordered, "I'll get ya a treat."
The wolf hopped up onto Evan's bed and snuggled close to Jonathan; a few minutes later Evan came back with a piece of raw steak on a plate. The wolf hopped off and ate when Evan placed it down. He got into some dry clothes as well as he joined Jonathan in bed.
This is all my fault, he hugged Jonathan to his chest.
Evan sobbed a little bit as he just hugged Jonathan's cold body; Jonathan then flipped around and cuddled up close to Evan. Both didn't say a word for the rest of the night.
