The Sandlot Girl: Small's Sister- Under Editing

Chapter 30

              The next thing they try is the airborne approach. Ham attached some of his Catherman's gear to Yah-Yah. Benny and  DuNunez wrapped a rope around him. We all got in our positions. "Take me up," Yah-Yah tells us.

           With that, Ham begins to pedal. As he does so Yah-Yah goes up and over the gate. They wait for their next order. Yah-Yah looks back and tells Ham to, "Let me down slow."

          Ham nods and begins to lower him down with the guidance of Benny,  DuNunez, Bertram, and Catherine. Squints keeps watching through the hole in the fence. "I'm right over it," Yah-Yah says.

            Yah-Yah grabs the ball and looks at the fence saying, "Okay, I got it. Now get me out of here."

              "Pull him up." Squints tells them.

           Yah-Yah hears something and turns and finds himself face to face with a slobbery tongue that seems to be growling at him. He can't speak anymore so he continues to yell.

            Squints yells at everyone to pull Yah-Yah up. Ham begins to pedal backward as fast as he can but the cable breaks. He begins to yell. Everyone begins to yell and everyone begins to pull Yah-Yah up by the broken cable as fast as they can. As we begin to see Yah-Yah we can tell that he is terrified. We get him down and he sits. "Yah-Yah?" Benny asks.

            "Its tongue was like huge and it had slobber coming out of his mouth. It was mean and big and it could have eaten me." Yah-Yah says.

           Smalls gets up and begins to walk away. "Scotty where are you going?" Catherine asks Scotty.

                         "I'm going home to get something I will be right back." And with that, he is gone.

        We all go sit down in the dugout. "You okay?" Bertram asks Cat.

                        "Yah, I just hope we can get it back before my dad and Step-Mom get back. " I say.

          "We will get it back Catherine. And if it takes a minute and we get it afterward then that's okay. The fake one should work for a little while."

              Phillips rides by with his team and stops.  "What are you guys doing sitting around? I thought it was baseball all day, all summer, Rodriguez?"

              "We are waiting to get our ball back, Phillips." I tell him through gritted teeth. 

          "Oh, and are you mad at me Catherine. After all the things I have done for you and with you." Camden says, smirking at me.

          "You need to leave," Ham says.

                "Like right now," DuNunez says. 

       "And who is going to make me?" Philips says boldly.

                      " We will." All of the boys stand up.

            Camden just chuckles "You sleep with all of them now, Princess."

                             "She is NOT your 'princess'. " Bertram says, getting mad.

                  "Oh Yeah. And I suppose you believe this ugly b*tch is yours, don't you? Don't you guys get it she is a slut. A worthless good for nothing whore is all you will ever be." I feel as if my heart has been ripped out of my heart. Bertram leaves me and goes up to Phillips. He draws back his arms and punches him. 3 times in the jaw, 2 in the gut, and once in the nose. "Bertram stop!" I yell at him. Ham and DuNunez pull him off of Phillips and his team pulls him back.

              "I'm just warning you man about her, okay. She'll break your heart.." He looks at me. "Like she broke mine."

             He rides off and as he does spits on me. All of his teammates do the same. Bertram helps me up. "Catherine you don't have to take this. You can fight back you know."

          "Bertram, That won't solve anything. Anyway, it's okay. All I care about is how I feel about myself and that I have good people like you and all our friends who support and care for me. "

       Bertram looks as if he is going to cry so I hug him. "Group hug!" Ham says in his 'play ball!' voice.

        Everything is going to be alright. My brother then comes back with all of his Rickter set. " We can use this and get the ball this way."

"Let's go!" Ham says.

                15 minutes later...

      "Well, that didn't work," Ham says, sitting on the ground. 

                  "That's all the ideas I have." Squints says.
Smalls falls to the ground and Catherine just stands there.
"My life is ruined." Scotty says.
"Let's just go home." Catherine says.
Scotty Smalls gets up and walks home with his sister as everyone else does so. Benny looks at the fence that has caused a whirl of problems for them. The ball is really gone forever...
