My name Catherine Smalls. I am currently 14 years old and am Scotty Smalls sister. Well, technically half-sister. My dad and Scotty's mom dated for a while and then, they got married and moved us across the country. But enough about that, This is my story of the best summer of my life and the boys that would change it forever.

"Mom, I'm going out." I yell, running out the door.
"Wait, a minute." Mrs. Smalls as she comes out of the kitchen.
I groan and turns around. Her mother checks over her outfit. "Where are you going, Cathy?"
"I wanted to go see my brother." I say, grabbing her backpack.
"Okay, but don't bug him." My mom says.
With that, I run out the door and towards the Sandlot.
When I get there I see everyone there. They have started.I find the dugout and curl up with my notebook and pencil, beginning to write about extravagant tales.
"The girl collapsed on the ground in a bloody mess. The boy ran to her aid to do all he could to save her. But he was too late. She was already gone."
Suddenly this boy yells "watch it!" and I look up. A baseball is coming straight at me. I grab my glove and throw it in the air. It catches the ball and glides gracefully onto my hand.
As I step out of the dugout, all the boys run at me.
Before the boy who yelled at me can say anything, I give him the ball.
"Here's the ball."
"Who are you?" The chubby one, who is the catcher, says.
"Umm...," Now they all look at me.
Then, My brother speaks up."Um, guys. This is my sister, Catherine. Catherine, these guys are..." He points at this one guy who I've noticed talks at like a million miles per hour.
"This is Yah-Yah," His jaw is still gaping, like the other guys.
"This is Kenny, Timmy and Tommy Timmons, Bertram, Ham, Squints, and Benny." Scotty says, gesturing towards each one.
"Um, nice to meet you guys." I say, shyly.
Then, Ham and Bertram pull on Scotty's collar and looks at me. "We are just going to steal your brother for a minute." Bertram says, and then, all the boys, except Benny, leave while pulling Scotty along.
Then, Benny walks over to my side, rubbing the back of his neck."So your Smalls' sister?"
"Who, Scotty? Yah, I'm his little sister."I say, looking down at my PF Flyers.
Then, they come back with a sad looking Scotty dragged behind. Then, Ham pipes up.
"Okay, we have came to an agreement." He looks at Scotty.
"The girl has to leave or Smalls is kicked off the team." Bertram says.
I get up and grab my notebook when Benny pipes up.
"How about this guys? What if we pitch the ball to her and if she doesn't hit it then, she goes if she does then she stays."
I look up at this boy.
"Alright." Squints says, and everyone nods.
"Benny, you pitch." Squints says, throwing him a glove. I hand the ball to Ham and grab a bat.
They all run to their positions. I get to the plate and do a daring choice. I call my shot.
The boys all laugh except for Scotty and Benny.
"You can try, Girl. But we are boys."
Benny pitches the ball and Ham is still talking crap in the background. I go into a zone.
The ball flies through the air. I concentrate on the red stitching on the ball. As the ball comes closer, I get ready to strike down on it.
'Crack!' I hit the ball with so much force the bat snaps and the ball flies through the air and over a green fence.
The bat came back and right before it nailed Ham in the face he ducked. 'Crap!' I think to myself. "Are you okay?" I ask, helping Ham up.
The whole team comes running towards me and Ham. Benny helps me sit Ham up. "Ham, can you hear me?" Benny asks.
Then Ham groggily replies, "Benny, I don't know about the rest of you guys but Cathy has a good right arm."
Benny, Scotty, and the other boys chuckle.
"Thanks. I guess."
