Chaper Sixteen. Part One

Squints POV....
We all got to the pool and then, I saw her for the second time that day. 'Wendy Peffercorn. Oh jeez, I have got to get out of here.' But then, Cat and Benny come in. Benny pulls off his shirt and jumps in. Cat is bending over and acts nervous.
I turn to Yah-Yah. "Hey, Yah-Yah. Help me tell everyone to turn around so Cat can feel more comfortable to take off her shirt and shorts.
"Why?" Yah-Yah asks and looks at Cat, seeing she looks nervous just like how I thought.
"That's why. I think Cat's scared because she is the only girl and other girl stuff, I guess."
"Yah-Yah. Let's get everyone to turn around for Cat."
We tell all the boys to turn around and see Ham isn't here. "Where's Ham?" Smalls asks.
We hear someone dive into the pool. We all turn in since. Cat jumped in an then, I see Ham. "There he is."
We all look and see him flirting with all the girls. I turn around and smile. I don't stare for a long time but get a glimpse of Cat and Bertram. He is tickling her and she giggles as he does so. "Bertram...stop...tickling...me." Cat says. Then, I turn back and see HER.
My crush, Wendy Peffercorn the lifeguard is rubbing lotion all over herself.
"Benny, what's wrong with Squints?" I hear Smalls ask.
I just watch Wendy put sunscreen on her arms and legs.
"Oh man." I hear Kenny say.
"She don't know what she's doing." Timmy says.
"She don't know what she's doing." Tommy retorts.
"Yes she does. She knows exactly what she is doing." Benny says.
"I have spent every summer of my adult life here." I say, Then rub my glasses on my wet chest then, continue.
"And every summer there she is. Oiling. Lotioning, oiling." I think I'm going nuts. I know what to do.
"Guys, what is wrong with Squints?" Cat asks, scared.
"I can't take it anymore.Move!" I yell and push everyone away and make maybe one of the stupidest good ideas I have ever had.

Bertram's POV...
Cat jumped in and squealed as she touched the cold water. I catch her and she surfaces. She is so beautiful I just wish she would love me. But normally the girls fall for Benny or Ham or Squints. She wraps her arms around my neck and I see Squints look at me in the corner of his eye and a genuine smile runs freely over his lips.
I turn my attention back to Catherine and see she is wearing a purple bikini and looks extremely hot, might I say, in it. She is a very gorgeous girl. And I haven't met any girl like her before.
Because Cat is the only girl in this whole town that egnolges me. I have noticed that I think I really love her. And not like a little crush but that night she encountered Phillips, whom still bugs Cat and denies that he has her clothes even though we all know that he does.
I think I knew I loved her when she first encountered Phillips but I didn't want to get in the way of her and Benny but I think they are just friends now, at least I hope.
He jumps in and I suddenly dive down to pull her back to the surface.
Once I do so, I get a good look at her. She is wearing a purple bikini and the top has very distracting frills on it. I gulp and look down because I feel the urge to kiss her but I don't want to upset her.
Then, I feel a hand under my chin lifting my head up. She looks at me thoughtfully. "Bertram, I wouldn't mind if you kiss me and I'm sorry my swim suit distracts you. I like that I'm the only girl that hangs around you so I won't have any competition." She says looking at me. 'What is she saying? Does she like me back? Calm down Bertram. Keep it calm.'
"I guess I'm saying Bertram that..., oh my gosh Bertram, I think... I think I love you, Bertram Grover Weeks."
"Really truly?" I ask, looking at her the best I can, I don't have my glasses on so my eyesight is as good as a bat's is.
She looks at me with such love in her eyes. "Really truly."
I crash my lips to hers. Cat is surprised at first but then relaxes. She is the first to break away and I already miss her lips on mine.
"So should I tell them?" Cat asks, blushing.
"Maybe on the way home." I say, holding her close to me.
"Sounds game to me." She says with a big smile brimming her face.
"Squints, Squints!" I suddenly hear Scotty yell. I suddenly get out of my wonderful fantasy and hurry to see what's wrong with Squints.

Squints POV...
"Move!" I yell out to everyone suddenly, I even jump.
I walk to the steps and climb up and out of the he pool. This might be the stupidest thing I have EVER done in my life.
I see Wendy Peffercorn and climb up on the diving board. I know I can't swim but I have to get Wendy's attention because whenever the gang sends Yah-Yah and I out to buy more baseballs she always flirts with me I know I deny it but I guess I know she does.
I get up on the diving board knowing that I can't swim. I take off my glasses and wave shyly at Wendy. She waves back and I chuckle.
I plug my noise and jump in, sinking to the bottom.
