PROLOGUE

"It is beautiful". I stared at the beautiful red gown on my body and admired the design on it, how soft it felt on my fingertips, how it complemented my pale skin and my red long hair, which flowed, down my shoulders.

"I know you are not happy about the marriage, but remember why you are doing this".

"You do not have to remind me, I would not be doing this if not for that".

"Good, I will check if all is ready". With that last sentence, she left.

I wiped the tear escaping my eyes and sat on my king sized bed, thinking, of all the ways I could escape. Escape from this nightmare, but I knew there was no escape for me.

I can still remember how my life was before I was turned to the monster I am today. There I was, on a late night, walking down the quiet streets, when I spotted him on the ground, unconscious.

I remember walking towards him, thinking of how I could help the poor soul. Funny how that is, when that thing had no soul.

He looked at me and laughed, and at that minute, I knew this was the end for me. I should have known, you never walk down a quiet street alone in the night. Well, I did, and that was the start of my nightmare.

My mama always said, monsters were real, but I always thought she was trying to scare me .Now I know, because I am one.

"Are you ready Vanessa?''. My sire's consort, who walked into my room, asked.

I did not bother to turn around to answer her. "yes, as I will ever be''.

She walked straight to me and sat beside me, turning my face to her, she said. "I know this is hard for you, but you understand why we do this".

I stared at her beautiful face, her pale skin, which suited her, and the brown hair, which curved her face.

"Yes I understand that you have to wed me to someone I do not know, to keep a peaceful alliance between the two factions of your people". I said in a tone that gave my anger away.

"They are your people now Vanessa, if we do not have a truce between the two factions, it could lead to war".

"And I should care about this? I do not care if your world burns to ashes".

"Yes, you are angry, I understand, but my child, you are the first girl out of a thousand Lucien has tried turning that has survived. You are chosen for this".

I kept silent; knowing there was no point in arguing with her, my fate was sealed. After a few minutes of silence, she turned around and headed for the garden and I knew she expected me to follow. I stood and followed her into the night. The night was dark, with the moon as the only source of illumination, but I could see clearly like any sunny day.

I could see how green the grass was, how soft it felt on my bare feet, the decorations set up by maids and the gathering of a hundred vampires. Staring at the beautiful pale faces of vampires, I wondered how monsters could be so beautiful.

"come child". My sire, who was the king of the Baeryn faction spoke, and the garden fell silent. "we are gathered here, to bear witness to the alliance of Baeryn and Lethic faction, through the marriage of Vanessa, a child of the Baeryn bloodline and Travis from the Lethic bloodline".

I could see how they planned to make this work, marrying me the heir of Baeryn bloodline to the king of Lethic faction. If only I was happy about this, then we could say this would be a fairy tale.

I stared at the man I was to wed, he was not bad looking,his beauty was blinding, he had blond hair with the pale skin all vampires had and he was dressed to impress.

"Do not fear child, come closer". Lucien said to me. I stepped in front of Travis and he did same.

"Repeat after me'' my sire said.
''I Vanessa accept this commitment and promise to honour and respect it as long as I shall live".

I opened my mouth to repeat the treacherous words but all I felt was pain, and then I looked down at where my heart should be, but all I saw was an empty hole in my chest. Then, it was darkness.
