Damn, I went through all that trouble for nothing.
If I was to guess, I would say I was five buildings up. I looked down angrily.
"Don't freak out Mia. Let's review your options. You can either jump and possible fall to your death or get badly injured or you can do nothing and get married off"
I thought for a second, looked at the window and made my choice clear when I jumped out the window.
I was falling, not the good kind of falling. The scary kind, the kind that says 'you are going to die soon'.
This wasn't some heroic movie, that the hero lands on his two feet gracefully.
No, i landed painfully, and collapsed on the ground.
The pain had me rolling around for a few seconds, but I knew the pain I felt could not be compared to the pain, a newly turned vampire passed through.
That being said, I dragged my broken leg closer, careful not to cause more harm or pain.
I thought of Vanessa,of everything she passed through, and I was not prepared to go down without a fight.
I could feel the pain subside and a pleasant heat take over my body.
My bones repaired itself and I felt strong. More strong than I had ever felt before, I felt like I could do anything.
I stood without difficulty and hid behind a wall.
I knew this place, inside and out. I had memories of living here and I knew this were Vanessa's memories. But it didn't matter, I was going to use them to my advantage.
I calculated the odds of me getting out of here, and I knew it was going to be a failed mission. But I had to try.
I sidestepped from the wall and walked as quiet as possible.
The situation I was in was bad, but at least I knew my way around.
I increased my steps, knowing soon someone would check my room and see I wasn't there.
I wasn't really good at this. Being a spy or fighter was never what I saw myself doing in future, but here I was.
I heard footsteps. Not loud enough to be close but loud enough to warn me.
Although, I heard footsteps, I saw no one.
Thump. Thump.
I heard the heart beat of the vampire. At first I wasn't sure that was a heart beat.
The vampire's heart beat was so slow, you could mistake for something else.
I stilled, as it occurred to me, if I could hear the vampire's heart beat, then surely mine was heard.
That thought ran clear in my head, and before I could an escape, I was suddenly ambushed by a pair of strong hands on my shoulders holding me still.
A man. I could tell that much. His hands were too firm and masculine to be mistaken as a woman's.
I struggled with him, till I was free. I didn't so much as wait a second before I ran.
I knew there was no use, I could not outrun a vampire.
Within mere seconds, I was caught.
The vampire turned me around, and I was faced with midnight blue eyes, cut black hair, pale skin.
He had that boyish smile, that am sure made girls fall at his feet.
"Nate". Relief hit me at once.
"Glad I could catch you princess. Aren't you supposed to be locked up in a tower or something?"
The amusement in his eyes caught me off guard.
Did he not realize, i was trying to escape?
Maybe not. Maybe I could use this to my advantage.
I snapped out of my internal monalogue. "No".
No? Where are you going with this Mia.
I cleared my throat. "No, I was just taking a walk". My heart skipped a beat.
Nate looked at me, like he could see through me. "Hmm. If you say so".
If you say so. What did that mean? Was he unto me.
"I can tell when you lie Mia". He said, and I could feel my body go rigid.
"Why would you think am lying?" My voice was barely audible to me, but I knew he heard.
"You are a horrible liar and your heart beat too fast. So what's the truth?"
What do I do? Tell him the truth?
No I can't, If I do, he would drag me back to my cage and inform Lucien. I couldn't let that happen.
"Well, I was just sight seeing".
Sight seeing. Jesus Mia, you suck at this.
I went through all that trouble to escape, only to be caught. Because I couldn't lie.
Nate sighed at me. For some reason, he wasn't angry, just amused. "Come on, princess. I can't let you sight see alone, not with you being the guest and all".
Guest.
That term pissed me off. I knew my way around, this was my home.
I kept my thoughts to myself. Knowing I could not escape him.
He offered his hand and I took it without hesitation.
"This building is where the commoners stay. The home of vampire's who don't walk directly under Lord Lucien".
I knew this place. I visited this place a lot. This was one of those places where Vanessa felt at home.
"Since, this is only you being curious and nothing else, I will show you around and escort back to your room". Nate said with the biggest smile.
He knew I was lying.
Damn him. I went through a lot to escape and now, am back to square one.
