I held unto Nate's arm, as we walked within the castle.
I listened closely as he spoke about everything. He told me about the vampires living here. He spoke with so much love and I couldn't tell him I already knew everything he said.
What I really wanted to know was how he became a vampire. I didn't want to ask, for the fear that It might be a sore topic. So I simple listened.
"You could say so many things about Lord Lucien, but no one can overlook how much love he has for us. At least unlike Lord Travis".
"What do you mean?" I asked, this I did not know.
"Well Lord Travis doesn't really rule his fraction. He doesn't care enough to rule anyone". Nate said, it was obvious he disliked Lord Travis.
"I don't understand. Ever since I arrived, it's always been about Lucien and Travis". I pointed out.
"Yes, people talk, but has any one ever said how good of a ruler Lord Travis is?".
Now that I think about it. I guess not.
He must have seen that in my face, cause he just smirked and continued talking.
"Am not saying he doesn't have any say in what happens in his fraction. he has a say in major issues. He just....".
He looked up, as if lost for a minute, and then looked at me, closely.
"Forget it". He said, and for a minute, I was sucked into those beautiful blue eyes. Everything else forgotten. My mind focused on two words, and all I wanted to do was obey.
But still, a part of me broke through. Just like my injuries, I could feel that light in me fighting his words.
I knew what this was. Nate was for some reason, compelling me to forget what he said about Travis.
My eyes snapped close, I could feel my mind fighting his compulsion.
Opening my eyes slowly, I looked at him with hurt in my eyes, and I only had one question. "Why would you do that?"
He frowned. "You didn't forget, how do you still remember?".
"Why are you here Child".
We both turned, shocked to see Lucien. Or at least I was, Nate didn't seem surprised.
My mind immediately thought of excuses, but unfortunately, I was never a good liar.
Before I could say something stupid, Nate spoke.
"We were just taking a walk, Lord Lucien." Nate stated calmly.
I looked at Lucien, silently hoping he would believe it. Although, there was truth in his words. After all, we are walking.
"You should be in your room preparing for your departure". Lucien said, he turned his back to us, expecting us to follow.
And like minions, we did.
We walked in silence. I didn't really care, I was too focused on climbing the stairs.
Lucien and Nate walked fast, unaffected from walking up the stairs, while I was a sweating mess.
I looked up to see Nate silently laughing at me, and all I could do was frown at his childish behavior.
My legs hurt and I wondered how anyone could climb these death stairs. Haven't this people heard of elevators.
I tried concentrating on something else to take my mind of the pain on my legs.
I thought about how my life was changing. One minute am a normal college girl and the next, am betrothed to a vampire Lord.
But there was something else, my body was changing. I didn't know how or why, but I was going to find out.
We reached my room, and I fell on my bed, happy to be home.
Home. Was this really my home?
"Tomorrow you will be escorted to the Lethic faction. Be ready". Lucien said. Although, i could see a hint of sadness in his eyes I didn't care.
"Before you leave, I have questions". I said, standing to sit on the couch.
"Go on, I will answer to the best of my abilities. I owe you that".
You owe me way more than this.
Clearing my throat and my thoughts, I asked. "When Nate tried to compel me, it didn't work. Also, I got injured and I could swear my bones broke, but before my eyes it healed". I flexed my ones broken leg.
Nate looked shocked, while Lucien nodded. "Your body is changing. When Vanessa died, Travis met a witch to bring you back. The spell is very simple. Vanessa is to be born again, not as a human but as a vampire".
I was confused. "Are you saying am a vampire?"
"Not yet, but you will be. Your body gradually changes to that of a vampire after you turn twenty".
Twenty, that's when I died.
Lucien nodded and I realized I had said that aloud.
"First, it was your memories. You remember everything about Vanessa, like you lived her life, which you did. Second, from what you told me, your body is healing. Also a vampire cannot compel another, unless, you are gifted with the ability". He paused, as if thinking and continued. "If am not mistaken, your powers has surfaced, your hearing increased. Within a few days or less, your body would have adapted, and you become a full vampire".
My hand unconsciously touched my head, as if willing the information to stop.
All this was too much for. All it took was a day for my life to turn around. I was angry and confused, mostly angry.
How could he not tell me this sooner.
I wanted to lash out, but what good would that do?
It wasn't going to change a thing.
This was Lord Travis's fault, or maybe not his alone.
I looked up at the man who turned me. If he hadn't turned me that night, then I would be human and married to someone I love.
Mia wouldn't exist but Vanessa would have lived a happy life.
This was messed up. I wanted to crawl under my bed and hide. Hide from everyone.
This was definitely a long chapter for me, cause it was kinda hard to write. 😩😩😩
Sorry it took so long.
