I woke to an empty room. Looking around I was glad to see its red walls.

“Am happy you are awake”.

Trisha said before closing the door behind her.

I rose from the bed and smiled at her. “Yeah, I had a very weird dream”.

“Really, was the dream you getting emotional and having a power display?”

“Is your new power, reading minds?” I asked and Trisha laughed.

“No, but if I ever have that power, you will be the first to know”.

We both laughed and she sat on the bed with me.

“You okay?” she asked worriedly.

“I don’t know. With all the shit that has happened, I don’t know how to feel”.

“It is over now. The worst is over. Now you know your messed up past”.

“Yeah, so what’s going to happen now?”

Immediately the words left my lips, Trisha’s expression changed. One minute she was all smiles and now, the frown was obvious.

“Unfortunately, things are going back to the way they were”.

“What the hell does that mean?” I asked.

“It means, you are still betrothed to Lord Travis”.

No, I cannot believe this. After being kidnapped and escaping death twice, I am being sent to my death again. What does a girl have to do escape her past?

“Why? I don’t understand, I thought it was over, that when we got here I could continue my life”.

Saying it aloud made me realize how stupid I am. Why did I think coming to a nest of vampires was the right thing to do. I should have known, I was a vampire and I couldn’t escape my marriage, why did I think I would be pardoned because am human?

“It’s not as simple as that. You were already betrothed before your death. And Lord Travis is the reason you are alive today”.

Really, is he now? It is obvious why he did it.

“He only wants me alive for his selfish reasons".

Trisha sighed. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but his reasons are not selfish”.

Okay, I was a little hurt when she took his side.

“If not selfish, what are they?”

“What you don’t understand is, Lord Travis’s powers are volatile. Any small mistake can cause a lot of death”.

I will admit I didn’t know that, but I was too angry to tell her.

“Why?” I asked.

“You see, Lord Travis was born from the first vampire and that makes him very powerful”.

I nodded, knowing that already.

“You could say he inherited the darkness his father had, and it is very important he has an anchor. All vampire anchors balance each other. Being a vampire doesn’t come without a price. We can live forever but at some point, your powers drive you crazy, and you have to be killed. This can only be prevented, when a vampire finds his or her anchor”.

“Okay, he should find another anchor”.

“We only get one Mia”.

Great, just great.

Today has just been full of hearing vampire history, which I have to say, is very complicated. Why can’t one plus one be two? They don’t make things easy. “Come on”. Trisha said.

“To where?”

"Anywhere, or would you prefer being stuck in here”.

Knowing she had a point, I stood and together we walked out the door. We passed my sire’s door and I realized how close our rooms were.

“I want you to meet someone”. Trisha whispered.

“Who?” I asked

“Dvina”.

She said it as if I was supposed to know who she was, but I did not.

“Who?” I tried again.

“Lord Lucien’s anchor”.

“I thought Serena is his anchor?”

“No. He turned Dvina a century ago, and soon realized she was his anchor. They bonded ever since”.

She talked about years, as if it was nothing. I guess when you live forever, time flies by.

We turned left into a corner and was directly faced with two giant doors.

“This is the training room”. Trisha introduced.

“You mean, were vampires come to fight and release piled up anger”.

“Yeah”

“And you want me to go in there”.

“Yes, this is why I brought you”.

She said it like, I was to know that already.

“You want a human also known as me to walk into a den of wolfs or in this case, a nest of vampires. You must really hate me”.

She shook her head at me and I carefully took a step back.

“Look, it’s not only a training room, but newly turned vampires come here to control their powers and bloodlust”.

She really wasn’t trying to help her case. If anything, she made it worse. I took two steps away from her and the doors and looked at her.

Shaking her head at me again, she said. “I understand how stupid that sounds, but no vampire in there will ever dream of touching you. You are not just a human, you are also a vampire. A vampire who can very well defend herself”.

She was forgetting that I wasn’t fully a vampire yet, but I guess she forgot to add that in her pep talk.

Accepting her words, she smiled at me and proceeded to open the doors. I looked around and met the stares of vampires around me. Each, with pale skins and blinding beauty. It wasn’t fair to how gorgeous they were, but I guess the beauty covers their inner demon.

I raised a challenging eyebrow to each one of them and they immediately looked away. They scattered around, trying to look busy but even a child could see how bad they were.

Trisha and I maneuvered through the vampires for a minute before we stopped by a woman.

The woman’s raven hair was cut short in a one sided manner. She stood proud in her six feet and excluded power. She wore a black top, black pants and black combat boots. Even with her back turned against us, her body language screamed authority. She turned to face us and I saw the pale skin all vampires seemed to have.

“Well, it’s about damn time you made an introduction”. She said and I couldn’t help but smile at her words.

“Am sorry, it was never my plan to keep you waiting”. I said sarcastically, she turned to Trisha and whispered.

“I like her”.

Although, I heard her loud and clear, I acted as if I didn’t.

“What was that?” I asked her.

“Nothing. Now, tell me what how your life was as a human”.
