Veronica, although heartbroken herself, seemed to care more in this moment about Jughead than her own feelings. "Jughead" Veronica said, trying to put aside any bad blood already set between the two. Jughead looked up at her. "Don't" He replied. "You make everything worse. You have everything anyways. I have nothing without Betty." Jughead looked down at his feet and then back up at the girl standing in front of him. "Jughead, I-" Veronica started to say, but it was too late. Jughead hopped onto his motorcycle and drove away, not thinking twice about the sad Veronica he was leaving behind. Veronica, who had always seemed to be the strong, brave girl, suddenly felt her entire world crashing down. She had just lost all of her friends in a matter of minutes. Veronica wiped her eyes dry, picked up her purse, and then walked back into school. Veronica Lodge was not going to miss rehearsal.

That afternoon, as Veronica walked into the auditorium, she stopped in her path to the stage. She felt her heart drop to her stomach. There stood every high school girls worst nightmare, her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend looking longingly into each others eyes. They were made for each other, and that was something anyone could see. Where was Jughead? Why wasn't he here by her side? Were they really never friends in his eyes? Veronica didn't know. She walked up the steps to the stage and sat down in a chair next to Toni. Out of the corner of her already teary eyes, Veronica could see Betty and Archie holding hands, walking up the steps to the stage. She could feel everyone looking at her. Just waiting for her to snap. But Veronica Lodge would not snap. She lifted her head higher and waited for Kevin to begin rehearsal.

That night, when Veronica returned home and climbed into bed, she drifted quickly off to sleep. She had experienced a rough day, and simply couldn't wait to dream of anything else. But, just as she closed her eyes, she heard a ring from her phone. Veronica popped up in bed and picked up her phone. | Come outside :) |. It read. Jughead. Veronica threw on a T-shirt and climbed out of her window, the way she used to as a kid when she needed to escape her father. When she climbed down the ladder and made it to the curb, she saw him. There stood Jughead, waiting for her. "Hi" he said, seeming sympathetic. Veronica gave him a half smile. "Listen I'm sorry. You didn't deserve what I said to you today. I was so upset and I got wrapped up in everything and-" Veronica stopped him from saying anymore. "It's okay, I can get over it" she said, with a full smile. "Want to do something fun?" Jughead asked. "Always" Veronica answered. And that night, as Veronica boarded onto the motorcycle of the Serpent King, she felt something beginning. A friendship she hoped, but there was something more to unfold.
