Chapter 12

      As Veronica opened her eyes, she felt the cool breeze of a fan making distracting white noise. "Hey beautiful" a familiar voice said. Archie. Her love, her boyfriend who was the only guy in her life. She turned her head to see him sitting in a chair next to her, accompanied by a nurse. "I'll leave you two alone" the nurse said, and he left the room. Veronica sat up in the hospital bed and felt herself being restricted by the IV attached to her wrist. "Ronnie I'm so glad you're okay" Archie soothed. Veronica sat up. "Now, now, Archiekins. The infamous Veronica Lodge always bounces back from a bad place." A bad place, Veronica thought. Jughead. "Where's Jughead?" Veronica stuttered. "He's hanging in there" Archie said "Why do you suddenly care so much about him?" Veronica ignored the question. The nurse came back in and took out Veronica's IV. "So, you're all good to go. Here are your discharge papers that you can just leave on the bed before you leave. Whatever you saw really hit you hard, we had to send loads of liquids through your veins. Have a nice rest of your day!" The nurse said, leaving the room. "Alright let's go see Jug" Veronica said, getting up. "Jug?" Archie replied. "Since when do you call him Jug?" he asked. "Since we got closer after you and Betty messed around." Veronica answered, leading Archie out into the hallway. "He's in 204B" Archie added.

     "Veronica!" Jughead said, sounding relieved. "Winona Rider always pushes through" he said. Veronica smiled. "I was so worried" she said, sitting down next to him. "Don't worry, I survived." Jug said, putting his hand on Veronica's. "Did I interrupt something?" Archie said, coming into the room. Jug let go of Veronica's hand. "No of course not Archiekins" Veronica said, kissing him on the cheek. "Hey man, you made it" Archie said, joining Veronica next to Jughead. "Yeah" Jug said, sounding disappointed. "Jug!" Betty exclaimed, entering the room. "It's a reunion!" Veronica said sarcastically. "Ronnie" Archie warned. Veronica rolled her eyes. "I was so scared! I thought I lost you. Never scare me like that again." Betty squealed. "I love you so much Jug!" Betty said. "I love you Betty Cooper" Jug replied. Betty leaned forward and kissed Jughead, making Veronica uncomfortable. "I just talked to the nurse and he said you can get discharged right now!"  Betty said happily. "Sounds great" replied Jughead, unenthusiastically.

     Later that night, at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe, the gang was back together. Sipping milkshakes and sharing jokes. And from an outside perspective you would see a perfect high school friend group. But the thing was that it was twisted in all sorts of ways. The raven haired girl and boy where secretly yearning for each other while the childhood best friends sat clueless nearby. Veronica could kiss Archie all she wanted, but it would never compare to the soft kiss she had shared with Jughead. It was clear to both of them that all they wanted was each other. And as they continued to wish for a happily ever after together, the blonde and redhead would share looks of lust towards one another. Their childhood friendship was waiting to be turned into something more. The four of them were all caught up in a powder keg, all it would take is one match and they'd all explode.
