A few days had passed, and Veronica and Jughead had been inseparable. No longer would Jughead attack Veronica for everything going on with her dad, and Veronica would happily support the Serpents. Early in the morning, Veronica was up and dressed, waiting for Jughead to text her. Veronica's outfit effort had come back, and she was as classy and stunning as ever. Her phone vibrated. | Here | said the text. Veronica smiled. "Bye mom" she yelled as she walked out the doors of the Pembrooke. She walked proudly down to the corner of the block, where Jughead stood waiting for her. "Ready?" he asked her. Veronica nodded. She climbed onto the bike behind Jughead and they both zoomed off to school.
When they arrived at school, Sweet Pea and Toni approached them. "Ronnie!" Sweet Pea said in a taunting voice. Veronica laughed, but she could feel the gut reminder of Archie once calling her that. She shook it off. "I have to get to rehearsal" Veronica said, still smiling. "Of course you do" said Sweet Pea. Toni smiled. "Good luck" she yelled as Veronica made her way to the auditorium. Jughead ran up behind her. "Hey!" Jug said. Veronica looked up at him. "Don't let Archie and Betty get to you, you're stronger than that" he said. "You got it" Veronica said, laughing happily as she walked through the doors. And Jughead, for the first time in forever, felt true happiness with Veronica Lodge.
"Veronica, I am obsessed with everything that just happened!" Kevin exclaimed as Veronica finished her solo, The World According To Chris. "Thank you, it helps to be in full costume" she replied happily. "Don't be so modest" said a familiar voice. Veronica whipped her head around to see Betty, the girl she once called her best friend. "Betty, stop" Archie said. Veronica felt the punches in her gut. Harder and harder. "You're the literal embodiment of Chris. I mean think about it. Spoiled rich girl: check. Major daddy issues: check. Trying to control everyone around her including her boyfriend and best friend: check, check, check." Betty's words felt like knives chopping out her heart until it could no longer beat. Veronica ran off of the stage, hoping to escape everything. She picked up her phone and called the one person who she knew would pick up. Jughead.
As Veronica and Jughead were riding home on his motorcycle, Veronica couldn't get Betty's words out of her head. How could someone who once meant so much to her, be so cruel? When they pulled up in front of the Pembrooke, Jughead turned to Veronica. "What really happened in there? Because I don't believe you have a stomach ache" he asked her. "Betty just said some harsh things" Veronica explained. "And they really hurt and the sad part is that she is right and-" Jughead stopped her from saying any more. "Veronica, you are amazing just the way you are" he said. She gave him a half smile. They stood, longingly looking into each others' eyes for what seemed like an eternity. "Jughead" Veronica said, about to turn around and walk inside. And then he kissed her. And this kiss was so different than the one they had shared at V's cabin. It felt real, and honest. She put her hand on his face, allowing him to know her touch. But she let go, not knowing why. She looked him straight in the eyes and ran inside to cry.
