Lukes POV

My mind was a blur as I watched flashing lights approach, the paramedics loading Calum in to the ambulance, me being told to make my own way to the hospital much to my protest, and last of all the sight of Calum as he lay bruised and broken as the yellow and green car doors closed.

Now somehow I'm sitting slumped down in the hospital waiting room chairs, tears streaming down my face, left to my own imagination with the movie of this evening playing over and over in my head.

*flash back*

I walked into the bar, Calum following closely behind, and took a seat on a stool.

'Cal can you order me a beer, I'm not technically old enough yet.' Calum smiled at me and complied to my request, calling over the bar tender and pushing a five pound note across the counter. I watched as his eyes flicker over me, assessing to see if I was old enough, but then turn and grab two glasses. I'm sure it was the fact I have my lip pierced that swayed his decision on my age.  'Happy Birthday Lukey.' Cal announced, ruffling my hair, as a grin spread across his face.

'Thanks for that mate.' I said, trying to fight the smile that was making its way on to my lips.

'No problemo.' He chuckled, reaching across the bar to take a sip of his beer. 'Im just gonna go to the toilet, I'll be back in a minute okay?' He said, before getting up and walking away.

I sat for a minute, every second feeling longer than an eternity without Cal here to talk to. I was pleased that Calum had wanted to spend my birthday with me, and I smiled as I played with the guitar pendent which newly hung around my neck as of this morning. Calum had been especially excited this morning as he held his hands behind his back, eyes sparkling with excitement.

Suddenly I felt a hand on my back, causing me to swivel my head around coming face to face with a guy, roughly around the age of 20, smirking at me.

'How are you today, pretty boy?' He asked, making my stomach churn and vomit start to come up my throat.

'Um, can you leave me alone please?' I asked shakily, looking around for Calum.

'Why would I do that, handsome?' He asked, his face still lit up with that sickly smirk.

'Please go.' I mumbled, worry crashing over my body like a wave.

'Sorry, but no can do princess.' I rolled my eyes at his nickname for me.

'I don't know if you've realised this but I'm a GUY.' He just chuckled.

'Do you think I'm stupid?'

'Well your obviously drunk out of your mind.' I muttered quietly to myself, turning away from the idiot beside me and trying to spot Calum from across the room. I felt the mans hand on my back as his fingers trailed slowly down my spine, making me gag.

'HEY, get your hands off my friend!' I heard someone shout. I instantly relaxed a bit, hearing Calum's voice here to save me and to sooth my worry. He instantly removed his hand from my back, but stood standing.

'Oh, so is that your boyfriend pretty boy?' He smirked at me, knowing full well he wasn't my boyfriend. I saw a flicker of confusion cross Calum's face before it was replaced with anger. 'DON'T TOUCH HIM.' Calum screamed before raising his fist up and punching him right in the jaw.

'Cal chill! We'll just leave and go somewhe-'

'NO, be quiet Luke!' He swung another punch at him, hitting him on the side of the head. Sizing the two of them up, Calum would easily win, but looking at the other guys anger now flaring in his eyes like a fire it wouldn't take long before Calum would be injured.

I watched as the man pulled back his hand and punched Calum on the jaw. I heard a crack, before Cal stumbled back. Another punch was aimed, harder this time and he fell back.

All too quickly Calum's head came in contact with the edge of the bar and the colour was drained out of his face. I caught him just before he hit the floor, but with the impact of the wood on his head, blood was trickling out of a large cut on his head and was starting to form a bump.

His body was limp in my arms as I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialled 999, tears streaming down my face.

I'm my quite sure how I ended up driving myself to the hospital, or how I managed to get there without crashing, but I did. And now I have to wait an eternity for answers I shouldn't even need if we hadn't gone to that bar.
