Chapter 10

Lukes POV

 I sat huddled on the floor with Ash and Mikey, our heads leaning on each others shoulders as our eyes drooped sleepily.

'We need to tell you something.' I peeked over my hand which was partly covering my hands, and looked at Michael who was shifting uneasily next to Ashton who had a sad frown on his face.

'Sure.' I answered, aprehension stirring in my stomache.

'We talked to the nurse yesterday...or was it the day before? Anyway...she-erm, how do I put this? She said that Calum was stable but if he gets lost in his thoughts we cant pull him out of his coma.' My eyes grew wide, how could they not tell me? I watched Michael wince as he saw the impact of hiding the truth.

'I'm so sorry Luke, we didnt mean to hide it from you but with all of this going on we couldn't think what was best and so decided we should-'

'Stop.' I pleaded, trying not to get angry.

'Dont be mad?' Ashton asked, trying to keep in his tears.

'Yeah, we were only trying to do what's best for you and you know we didn't want to hurt yo-'

'I said stop. I can't deal with this anymore.' I croaked, tucking my knees in to my chest and pulling my hood up over my head.

'I'm sure he's fine Luke.'

'But he's not is he!? Stop making empty promises to me when you know they aren't true, just because you think I'm young and vulnerable and think I cant handle the truth.'

'I said I was sorry Luke, please dont be mad at me again.' I sighed, Ashton was right but I dont think I was capable of speaking with the new information. I shook my head.

'Why couldnt you have just told me Ashy?' I smiled small, letting him know I wasnt mad.

'Sorry.' He whimpered, seeming younger than me in that minute.

'S'ok.' I muttered, looking around the room for something to take our minds off of it. 'Hey, do you think we could help Cal by singing to him?' I asked quietly, knowing that always calms Calum.

'We could try?' Michael questioned, sitting up and scooting closer to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.

'Yeah? What song?' Ashton whispered, seeming tired.

'Never be.' I instantly knew what song I wanted to sing him, this being one of our favourites on the album when we were alone. 'The second part though.' I added, not wanting to sing all of it.

'Sure.' They murmered, before we started singing together the song that meant the world to me.

I breathed out as tears fell out of my eyes, watching Calum lay there without any sign of recognition made me feel like that was all for nothing. But I bet it helped.
