They stood standing side by side, hands intertwined together and like a puzzle piece, it fitted perfectly. The emerald green leaves hummed out a relaxing sigh as the summer breeze flowed by.
The eerie shadowy feel of the place is no more, as the sun painted the world vivid by its warm rays and the birds fluttered about the place.
The elegant vines circled distinctively around the arbour tunnel at the rear end of the area, the leaves clasped strongly on the metal bar that has worn out since Shiho's last visit.
'I've come to visit you again,' Shiho sighed as she gazed at the sight in front of her.
Three gravestones laid next to each other, Shiho recited the names of it over and over again in her head.
'It's a family reunion,' Shinichi commented, noticing his girlfriends' sorrow in her eyes.
'Yep, sure is,' she replied, her brows returning into its natural form, 'It's so ironic. The people in my life who say, 'I'm always going to be here for you' are the ones who walk away first,'
'I just hope that won't happen to us,' she whispered.
'Don't worry, it won't, I'm sure of it,' he assured her.
The silence enveloped between them as the scientist rested her head lovingly on the detective's shoulder. His thumb unconsciously traced circles on her fist, as if to comfort her.
She noticed his gesture and smirked at him, it had come to her attention that Shinichi's certainly grew more mature and, she hates to admit, but more gorgeous and charming over the years. Shiho watches as his hair dangled over his enthralling blue eyes, he seemed to be contemplating about something. But he has transformed from the egotistical high school smartass to a humble and reliable detective.
'Oh yeah, why did you bring me here?' Shiho questioned, her gaze wandered back to the gravestones.
His lips curled into a knowing smirk.
He swiftly turned to face Shiho.
She was wearing the amethyst necklace that he gave her, as her hair flowed in the wind. He noticed that her hair has gotten longer and she had become softer and has stopped throwing sarcastic comments at Shinichi. However, he can occasionally catch her muttering something under her breath that he wishes not to hear. She has even learnt to be more lenient with Agasa.
He gazed at her facial features, and he had sworn she'd gotten more attractive and that only makes him fall for her even more.
'I don't like your name,' he stated simply.
'My what?' she asked, her eyebrows raising into a quizzical look.
'Your name,' he answered, 'more specifically, your last name,'
Shiho immediately sensed where he was going with this conversation, as her sarcastic vibes came back to her.
'And what do you want me to do with it, huh,' she smirked.
'To change it,' he grabbed something out of his pocket, 'to Kudo,'
It was never in his nature to do something so cringy and embarrassing, but sometimes your loved one is all that matters.
At least for him.
He bent down on his knees and gazed up at Shiho, they both felt butterflies fluttering about in their stomachs.
Everything seemed to stop. Everything did stop, even the whistling of the trees seemed to pause for those few seconds as if they were watching the romantic scene.
He opened the box and out appeared a silver ring which was breathtakingly beautiful. It had a very unique style, that represents their unique story, as it curved perfectly around. The design was intricate and precise, she could see the fine detail that makes up the delicate ring.
Shiho's face was crimson red, and so was Shinichi's as they stared into each other's eyes.
'Would you make me the happiest man alive,' he started, nervous and excited, his heart racing rapidly, 'and marry me?'
She was found it absolutely adorable of Shinichi's actions, she felt like she can burst out with happy tears.
But she managed to hinder herself from showing her feelings and calm herself down.
'You bloody pervert,'
Shinichi's face dropped as he stared flabbergasted at Shiho.
'You have a perfect view of my undergarments from where you are, so you better stand up before you regret it,'
His smile immediately came back to him as he stood up. Not letting Shiho have the last word, he whispered something into her ear.
'It doesn't matter darling, I've seen you without it a million times before,' he teased, a hint of playfulness in his voice.
She glared in the most deadliest manner at him, and he decided not to go any further.
Shiho returned to her normal state, 'you brought me here to say it in front of my family didn't you,'
'Yes,' he turned to them, 'can I have your permission to marry your daughter/sister (for Akemi)? I promise I will take care of her, cherish her and never sing to her again. Please give me some signal if the answer is yes,'
Right after his proposal, a leaf glided down to his hands, he smiled and turned to Shiho.
'So would you marry me?'
She chuckled, 'of course, silly,'
They kissed passionately under the setting sun, determined to spend the rest of their lives together. Shiho smiled as she thought of all the adventures she's gonna encounter with him.
I love you Kudo Shinichi
I love you Shiho Miyano
