I didn't wake up. I was already awake when Aunt Em burst through my door telling me to get ready. Ready for what? I thought, but Aunt Em soon answered my question by telling me she had my uniform downstairs.
I was starting my job at the Zesty Juice Bar today, I totally forgot. I didn't exactly feel up to doing much today after my sleepless night. But anything was better than being left with my thoughts, I needed a distraction and this job would surely do the trick.
I dragged myself out of my bed and peered in the large mirror hanging on my wall. I looked ghastly. My eyes were red and puffy from all the crying I had done, small dark circles lay beneath my eyes showing just how much sleep I had gotten and my cheeks were stained from my fallen tears.
Aunt Em knocked quietly on my door and handed in my uniform. I thanked her, my eyes never leaving the ground as I didn't want her to see how bad I looked. She informed me that she'd be downstairs making breakfast if I needed anything.
Once she felt I scraped my hair back into a pony and put my cap on, pulling my ponytail through the hole at the back. I quickly washed my face, removing the tears stains from my cheeks, I then applied a small amount of concealer under my eyes and a tad of mascara, this helped to hide that fact I was crying and had gotten no sleep all night. I pulled on my bright green polo shirt and matched it with black skinny jeans and a pair if white toms, I pulled my tiny apron around my waist and I looked ready to go.
I trotted down the stairs and thanked Aunt Em for the breakfast while downing my tea and shovelling the toast into my mouth. I rushed out the door and speed walked to Amelia's. Slightly relieved that it was bright and I could see my surroundings but at the same time I was nervous, most definitely not wanting a repeat of the night before.
I reached Amelia's door and she opened it before I got the chance to knock. She was dressed in the exact same attire as myself. However, I wasn't greeted with her usual goofy smile and fits of giggles. She had a neutral expression. She didn't look happy but she didn't exactly look pissed off either. Before I got the chance to speak I was cut off my Sophie ushering us out if the house and into her car.
We soon pulled up outside the Juice Bar. It was about a fifteen minute walk from my house or I could easily get the bus. But Sophie being Sophie insisted on driving us all the time. She was quite admirable, setting up her own Juice Bar, taking a risk and it was the happiest I've ever seen her when she opened the door with her new key. She strutted round the bar, carefully examining the modern interior.
Technically we weren't really working today. Tomorrow would be the grand opening. Today we would just prepare a few tester drinks, polish the floors and tables and make sure everything was in check ready to go for tomorrow.
Sophie spent most've the day in her office, making phone calls and doing manager stuff I suppose. While Amelia was out here cleaning tables with me, giving me the could shoulder.
I was just about to break the silence but Amelia beat me to it.
"Why did you tell your Aunt Em we had a fight last night?" She asked quietly.
"Oh- I - Um, Wait how'd you know I said that?" I stuttered.
"I accidentally overheard my Mom and your Aunt Em on the phone. She was concerned because you came home crying last night after our walk. And when she asked 'what's wrong' you told her it was because of a fight we had."
I stood there silent, debating whether to tell her the truth or not. I didn't want to scare her. She might not even believe me.
"I don't remember having a fight with you Jess." She added, almost in a whisper.
