Chapter 12: Engine 3
"Uggh" I groaned before even opening my eyes. The first thing that my brain registered was a loud ringing in my ears. My head hurt like hell and I barely remembered being thrown against solid metal after that big explosion.
Explosion........ EXPLOSION CRAP
I sat up straight in my bed, and I forced my eyes open. Luckily, I was in my room, which I had probably been placed in by either Steve or Tony.
The ringing subsided, but my head immediately started to throb instead and I got dizzy by just opening my eyes. I grabbed my head in my hands for a second, before gritting my teeth and getting up out of bed.
I tried to walk across the room, but I got so dizzy that I fell down. After a few trips and falls, I got back up and finally reached the door.
Once I was out in the hallway and could see normally again, I started running down the halls back toward the lab.
My stomach was lurching like on a drop of a roller coaster, and I could feel that the Hellicarrier was falling out of the sky.
I swallowed my anxiety, after all, I had always been scared of planes and flying and heights. But, I kept on running to the lab.
Luckily, before I got there, I heard "Captain America and Iron Man in engine 3!" Over the intercom.
I guess that's me.
After what seemed like ages of running and falling and getting back up again, I got to the engine.
I looked around to make sure no bad guys were around, then I walked as far as I could on the broken platform.
Suddenly, I started to be shot at. I turned around and immediately threw my left arm out, but before I could do anything, the guy shot and hit me right in the wrist.
"AH" I yelled out, and a mix of snow, and jagged icicles shot from my hand without me asking it to.
The icicles pierced thought the wall behind him, narrowly missing, but the snow blinded him. I turned and used my right hand to turn him into a big ice cube.
I sighed in relief, but then remembered my wrist and winced in pain. I tried moving my wrist, or even hand at all, but every movement caused terrible pain.
Then, I heard rapid gunshots coming from the upper level of the engine. I looked up and saw Steve, trying to shoot at someone who was obviously fighting back.
I went over to the ladder up, and tried to climb as best I could with my one hand. Luckily, Steve hadn't been hit, but just as I was about to step onto the next floor, Steve slipped off of the end of the platform and fell, only hanging on by a loose wire.
"STEVE!" I yelled to him, which made the gunman look over to me. He tried to shoot, but was too late. With a flick of my wrist, his gun was frozen, and he stood facing me, weaponless. I walked up to him slowly, and I kicked him hard in the stomach, knocking him down and turning him to ice as soon as my foot made contact with his abdomen.
"...you son of a bitch." I mumbled to the guy as I passed him, running over to give Steve a hand.
"Athena! What the hell are you doing? You shouldn't be here!" Steve nagged
"Steve seriously. Stop nagging me and take my hand." I told him, and he took my good hand.
Right as he was about to climb into the platform to safety, more bullets were shot at us.
"Hold on!" I yelled at Steve, still holding his hand in mine to keep him from falling. I turned my body around and held my hand out to the bad guy. I didn't realize that it was my bad hand until I tried to use my mutation through it, and I was met by excruciating pain rippling through my whole arm.
