Chapter 17: The Battle of Manhattan Pt.2

The portal roared with new arrivals as tons of Chitauri, of all shapes and sizes, poured out of the vastness of space.

"Guys." Said Natasha, warning anyone who didn't notice.

"Call it Captain." Said Tony

"Al right listen up. Until we can close that portal up there, were gonna need containment." Steve started to give his orders.

"Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything, call out patterns and strays."

"Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything get more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash."

"You wanna give me a lift?" Clint asked Tony

"Right. Better clench up Legolas." Tony said before grabbing Clint and flying him up to a ledge of one of the high-rises.

"Thor." Steve turned to Thor and began to give him instructions.

"You've gotta try and bottleneck that portal. You've got the lighting, light the bastards up."

Right as Steve finished, Thor spun Mjolnir for a few seconds before he flew up to the top of the Chrysler Building.

Then, Steve turned to Nat and I.

"Us three will stay here, keep the fighting on the ground." He finished, then finally turned towards the Hulk.

"And Hulk......Smash." He said simply, and the Hulk sprang onto a nearby building and begun to smash Chitauri by the handfuls.

"Why don't we split up a little." I suggested. "Not too far, but just enough so we can take down as many Chitauri as we can."

"Roger that." Agreed Steve as Natasha nodded at me. There were Chitauri coming at us and going for pedestrians, so I ran left, Nat ran right, and Steve went to save the people.

Right as I began to fight, I could feel that the control of my powers that I had was starting to tip off the edge of "okay, we're good" and "you're about the freeze the whole galaxy, dumbass."

The Chitauri kept coming though, and I was starting to get sick of fighting them individually, so I decided to just make a big move.

I backed up at and waited for the Chitauri to stop and aim their weapons at me. Right as they were about to start shooting, all at once, I flicked my hand towards the ground in front of them.

Ice rose from the ground and formed a huge barrier, some ice smooth and some jagged, that shielded them from coming any closer. The Chitauri roared in frustration as they tried to break the ice, but failed miserably.

I smiled in satisfaction, but I stopped smiling when I felt the unfamiliar sensation of my hands stinging.

I looked down at them to see that my fingertips were blue, and the rest of my hands down to my wrists were frosted over, in patterns that resembled those of a snowflake. I hissed in pain, as it felt like i'd just stuck my hands in a tub of ice-water. Out of all the things that have never happened before, this was definitely the worst.

I hadn't noticed that i'd been pacing around until my back collided with the railing of the bridge. I put my hands on the ledge to brace myself, and the whole railing immediately froze up as far down the bridge as I could see.

"Did you do that, Athena?" I heard someone say through my earpiece, and I finally was able to recognize it as Tony.

"Oh my god, Tony? You can see that? Where are you?" I asked, looking at the railing to see how far it went.
