Chapter 16: The Battle of Manhattan Pt.1

We ran around capsized cars, rubble and lots of screaming people so we could get a better view.

We all made it to a clearing on the road, a four way street, and looked up at the giant portal in the sky.

What we saw was a giant, scaly, metallic creature emerging from the darkness, and out onto the New York skyline. It roared out, displaying it's big teeth, and then swooped down in between two buildings.

From it, Chitauri soldiers jumped out and clung onto the sides of the buildings, some smashing through the glass windows and reeking havoc on the onlookers.

"Stark, are you seeing this?" Steve asked through his earpiece.

I didn't hear Tony's reply, but I did hear Steve say "Banner?", which meant that Tony was still hoping that the Hulk would show up and smash everything.

Tony seemed to stop talking to Steve, and we all looked around before deciding to join the fight.

After we made it through a few groups of Chitauri, with Steve and his shield, Nat with her guns and Clint with his arrows.

I was yet to use my powers, I had only been kicking and punching and shooting. To be honest, I was afraid that I'd freeze the whole city if I tried to shoot an icicle into one of the aliens' heads. The stress of all of this wasn't exactly helping me control my mutation. Exactly the opposite, actually.

We fought as much as we could before all four of us ducked behind an abandoned Taxi.

Suddenly, Loki and his band of Chitauri flew overhead, then caused mayhem a little ways down the street.

"They're fish in a barrel down there." Said Steve, looking over the hood of the Taxi and over the railing of the bridge that we were on.

"Go on." I said "We got this. Go." I said, gesturing for him to go and save the citizens.

He then looked around me at Clint and Natasha. "You think you can hold them off?" He asked us.

"Captain" Said Clint as he loaded an arrow from his quiver. "It would be my genuine pleasure." He said cockily as he turned and shot one of the Chitauri right in the eye socket. This allowed Steve time to jump off the bridge, onto a bus, dodge an explosion and run down to the citizens.

After shooting a few Chitauri with perfect aim, Clint ran over to a bus and started to help citizens evacuate.

Natasha and I both held them off, her shooting both of her guns a little ways down the road from me.

I was trying to shoot as well, but I just couldn't aim as well with guns as I could with my hands.

I finally bucked up the courage to use my mutation instead. I put both my guns back in their holsters, and then ripped them and the belt off of me. I set them down on one of the cars, just in case Natasha needed ammo.

I surveyed my surroundings as I stretched my hands out. There were about 13-14 Chitauri that were all pointing their weapons at me. It seemed like they were waiting to see if I'd challenge them.

I wanted to test how my powers were behaving, so I stuck out the hand that was attached to the wrist I'd recently hurt, the left one, to a Chitauri that was right in front of me. Luckily it didn't hurt, but before I told it to, a powerful blast of ice and frost shot out of my hand, sending about 4 of the Chitauri flying back.

"Woah." I said, knowing very well that this was only a start of a big, cold mess. I was looking down at my hands, so I almost didn't realize the Chitauri beginning to advance on me.
