Chapter 8: Here's Loki
By the time I made it to the entrance, I could already see what I was up against.
Crowds of people dressed in tux's and dresses gathered on my marble floors of the gigantic room. I almost forgot to stop and give the guard my name as I took in my surroundings.
I didn't want to give anyone a chance to prove that I didn't belong, so I quickly gave my name, and the guard nodded and granted me entry.
Again, as soon as my heels clicked on the marble floor, everyone's necks snapped towards me. I felt very self conscious, but luckily, people seemed to be looking at me in what seemed to the awe. The dress was pretty amazing!
I walked over to a lesser-populated area of the ballroom and looked out at the sea of people.
"Anything yet?" I heard Steve whisper through my earpiece.
"Nope." I replied "Just a bunch of rich people and champagne."
"Okay just keep me posted." Steve whispered again.
Right after Steve's voice left my earpiece, I saw a door, to my right about 10 feet. I hoped that it would lead to the upper levels and to the balconies, so I snuck quietly over to the door and entered through it.
Sure enough, I saw velvet lined floors and stairs as I shut the door behind me, so I made my way up the stairs quickly.
I peaked my head out from the door at the top of the stair case, and found that I had indeed found the balcony that overlooked the whole ballroom. I would've emerged fully, but the sound of soft footsteps made me close the door almost fully, just so I could see out of a crack in it.
My stomach dropped as I saw that the footsteps belonged to Loki, who was dressed smartly in a black suit, overcoat, and gold and green scarf. Not to mention, carrying his long scepter.
As I watched him pass by me and look over the balcony, I could feel the door handle underneath my palm freezing up. I looked down at the almost frozen handle and tried to contain myself as best I could, knowing that if I didn't, the whole door would freeze up and Loki would see me.
I watched though the door as Loki strode gracefully down the stone steps.
He then got down to the guard at the bottom, and didn't hesitate before whacking him upside the head with his scepter.
"Oh- ho-ho!" I actually laughed at him, but then stopped as he grabbed the Doctor who was talking and dragged him up to the flat marble sculpture in the middle of the room. He then pulled out a little spinning contraption, and jammed the thing down into the Doctor's eye without a second thought.
"WOAH!" I yelled, and then immediately closed the door so no one would hear me. Not like anyone would, because I could hear people screaming and fleeing the building as fast as the could.
"What!" Steve shouted over my earpiece in a worried voice.
I didn't reply to him immediately, but instead stuck my head out the door again to see what was happening.
Right as I walked fully out of the doorway and stood on the balcony, I saw Loki transforming into his armor and striding out of the building.
Just as he was fully out of the building, he looked back in, making me duck down below the marble banister.
As I ducked, the tight skirt of my dress stretched and ripped, causing a tear up to my knee on my right leg. I closed my eyes and clenched my teeth, hoping that the sound of the ripping fabric hadn't been too loud.
I waited, holding my breath until Steve's voice shot from my earpiece, making me jump.
"Seriously, Athena!" Steve shouted, but I immediately put my hand up to the earpiece and shushed him as quietly as I could.
"What's happening? If you don't tell me I'm coming down there and getting you myself!" He whisper-yelled at me through the earpiece.
"Okay, so Loki smacked a guard upside the head, took the doctor's eyeball, and is now walking out of the building so he can probably destroy more stuff. So you guys should probably get down here..... Like now!" I replied as I peaked over the banister. Luckily, Loki had gone, and was now across the street along with a bunch of kneeling civilians.
I stood up, and then looked down at my dress, which was now ruined due to the huge rip in the side. I didn't have time to feel bad about it now, because I looked down right at the man whose eye had been stollen, who was now lying on the statue, unmoving.
I could see blood trickling down onto the statue and to the floor, so I quickly ran down the stairs as fast as I could, and ran over to him, trying my best not to slip.
As I reached him, I checked the man's pulse, and let out a sigh of relief when I found it. It was weak, but still there. Okay. Let's save a life.
I immediately knew I had to stop the bleeding, so I formed a jagged icicle and used it to rip a piece of his jacket off. I applied pressure to his eye, hoping it would help.
I didn't know what to do now, obviously because I couldn't leave, or carry him, and if an ambulance came, Loki would probably blow it up. I hoped Steve would save the day and get Loki soon.
"Come oooonnnnnn! Come on come on come on!" I said to myself as I bounced on the balls of my feet anxiously.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of something bouncing off a hard surface. I looked outside to see Steve, facing Loki, ready to save the day. Thank god.
"You know the last time I was in Germany, and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing." Steve quipped, his voice projecting out across the street to me.
"The soldier. A man out of time." Loki interrupted my thoughts with his jab at Steve.
"I'm not the one who's out of time." Steve said with a smirk.
"Loki, drop the weapon and stand down." Natasha's voice boomed over the speaker system on the jet.
Suddenly, Loki shot a beam of energy at the jet, narrowly missing, and allowing Steve time to take his first shot at Loki.
They fought for a while, and each time Steve was knocked down, I wanted to run out and fight with him. Just as it looked like Steve was defeated and I was about to join the fight, I heard
AC/DC's Shoot to Thrill over the jet's loudspeaker.
I knew who it was instantly. It was a typical Stark move.
I had been friends with Tony Stark since I was younger, him being what you might call a family friend. My grandmother, Georgia, and his father Howard had worked closely together as scientists for the SSR back during the Captain America age. He was always sort of the older brother I'd never had and also my best friend. And after I started working for S.H.I.E.L.D, I was sent to Malibu sometimes and Stark Tower as it was under construction to check up on them. And of course, I'd met Pepper Potts, who was my close friend too.
I hadnt seen them recently though, because I had been shipped off to the middle of nowhere for 2 months on and off prior to this.
Tony, or Iron Man, flew in and knocked Loki, back first, into the stairs with his repulser beams.
He displayed all of the weaponry on the suit. "Make your move, Reindeer games." He said to Loki.
Loki's armor faded away as he put his hands up in surrender. I was relieved, and saw Steve and Tony greet each other.
