Year 40020

Our world is engulfed in darkness; light is a forgotten thing. The streets are filled with crime- thefts, rapes, drug trafficking, and murder are common here. Sometimes, I just want to go somewhere far away from here, to escape from this dark world. But with the absence of light, none of this is possible.

I trudged down the same old road, wearing the same old clothes and humming the same old song. It was as if I copied and pasted everything from yesterday. Even the temperature was the same. In this game-like world, everyone seemed too mechanical. The same gangs caused riot near the same neighborhoods, the same cars aligned the same yards, and the same words repeated in my head.

Save me, save me, save me, save me...

I stared up at the same old sky, a canvas painted completely with black paint. A soft sigh escaped my lips as I wondered if there was any safe haven for people like me, but were there others that shared the same thoughts as me?

Looking down at the ground, I continued to walk. Not long after my tenth step, I suddenly felt something.

It was like an electric shock wave, jolting through my body and disappearing faster than I could blink. But that was enough to convince me: I needed to get out of here.

I darted down unfamiliar paths and alleys, finally feeling free. It felt as if my life was actually mine now, not just some programming I had to go by. And I could do whatever I wanted with it.

Suddenly, a figure popped out of nowhere and stood in my path. Surprised, I skirted to a stop, almost running into the mysterious man.

"Woah, hold your horses, missy." He spoke in a comforting voice. "Why are you running?"

I spilled out every single emotion I felt about light being a forgotten thing, how much I hated being stuck in this unnatural world, and how I wished I could go back to the days where there were light and warmth and where everything was perfectly natural.

The man chuckled and took my cold hand in his warm ones. "Follow me, miss." His low tone and polite words made me relax and follow him.

As we walked down the dark alley together, I slowly opened my mouth. "I'm Y/N."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "V." He simply said, and we shared no words after that.

I kept trailing after him, clutching on to his warm hand. We arrived in front of a worn-out building, and V took out a glowing key. It illuminated our faces, and I caught sight of the mysterious V's facial features.

Oh lord, he was a sight for sore eyes. His blond hair fell in bangs which covered part of his icy eyes, his pale complexion glowing in the light. I drew in a sharp breath when I saw his lips, pink as a snowberry. Everything about this man seemed so unrealistically flawless.

Unlocking the door, V smiled softly, looking at me with his striking blue eyes. He pushed the door open, and something blinding flooded into my eyes.

It was light.

Amazed, I rushed inside to find all sorts of wonderful things in the brightly lit room. There was an old lightbulb, an antique chandelier, and other items from the 21st century. There was even a file about solar energy, using the sun's rays to power other sources of light.
