It was my eighteenth birthday. Today was the day I got to see what my soulmate first said to me. I looked down at my arm and immediately covered it up. Sighing, I fell back into my bed and went to sleep.

-

The next day, I went to school with a bandage wrapped around my wrist. I kept my face solemn and scanned the crowded hallways for a familiar face. A boy with a radiant smile stood out from the crowd. I scowled at him and continued to make my way to my locker, not giving him a second glance.

I made my way to class and sat down next to my friend, Jieun. She pointed to my arm and asked me if I got hurt. I simply shook my head and told her not to worry about it. A sigh left my mouth as I took my books out and set it down on the desk.

-

It was lunchtime. I shared a quick conversation with Jieun as we got our lunches. She grabbed a chicken salad while I opted out for a sandwich. I saw the guy again, his presence brightening up the whole cafeteria. My face automatically scrunched up, and my friend pointed it out, laughing at how I was acting. I didn't like it, being called out like that. I simply took a bite of my sandwich.

-

After lunch, I made my way to my next class, where I happened to sit in front of the happy boy. I rolled my eyes as he talked to his other friends in that class, often passing notes to each other. Part of me wanted to just turn around and get mad at him, but the better side calmed me down and kept me from lashing out at the poor dude.

-

School ended pretty quickly, and I could hear the buzz of conversations around me, the loud voices turning into hushed whispers whenever I got close enough to eavesdrop. Everything seemed to be against me today, and I started walking home. It wasn't a long walk; 20 minutes at tops. But it seemed longer without someone there to keep me company. I let out a soft sigh and kept walking. I was about ten minutes away from my home when my phone suddenly buzzed. My friend, Jieun, has texted me.

I trotted into the house and jumped on my bed, wondering why life had to treat me like this. I thought at least my boyfriend and I would be soulmates, but even that didn't work out.

-

The next day at school, I basically ignored everyone, even the people that were actually trying to talk to me. I opened my locker, and to my surprise, I found a note.

Hey,
Come to Room 500 after first period to help me find my soulmate!
- J.H.

I wondered who this J.H. could be. Since I was technically a free girl now, I decided to peek in.

-

First period felt like forever, and as soon as it was over, I rushed over to room 500, the abandoned art room. Slowly, I opened the door and poked my head inside. Once I saw that it was safe to go inside, I did, closing the door behind me.

In a chair in the middle sat a boy that was very familiar.

"Ah, it's you!" I exclaimed, and Hoseok looked at me, a bright smile on his face. On his arm were the exact words I just said. It took me a while to process what was going on, and once I did, I gasped and looked at him.

"Took you long enough, idiot." I froze when I heard those words. When read out loud, those words sounded really hurtful, and I was scared of who my soulmate would end up being. But hearing from Hoseok like that wasn't scary at all. I let out a soft chuckle and looked into his jolly eyes. I unwrapped the bandage around my wrist to show him the words tattooed on my arm.

"Soulmate?" He asked, extending his hand out.

I shook his hand and pulled him in for a hug. "Soulmate."
