I was talking about this with a friend today and in films and just everything, they're always perfect and like ... 99% of them are completely awful? Like they're always magical when in reality they're usually awkward af and quick and it just makes no sense. Like especially when the people haven't kissed before and suddenly they're just perfectly like

Like in fanfics, it's always like:
His hands slipped around my waist, our face inches apart and then he gently leant in, our lips colliding. Fireworks went off. My life was complete
When in reality it's more like:
At first, I wasn't sure if he was going to kiss me because it looked like he was about to get up. Then he kind of leant in but unfortunately, I had decided to get up at that point so we met in the middle. Quickly, we both apologised mainly because he'd bitten my nose a little bit
I was discussing it with a friend today and literally, all of our first kisses were just massive jokes and it was awesome.
Like mine was with some random guy and I laughed when he kissed me before running away to my friends whilst he stood in the doorway, wondering what the fuck I was doing. Another one of my friends ended up having a genuinely sweet one with a guy at the top of the stairs on Halloween ... before he turned out to be a total moron and she now goes very distant whenever we bring it up. One of mine kissed her friend in the garden listening to Redbone and then one of mine kissed a guy ... and he told her he had a girlfriend straight after. My friend claims I was her first kiss but like .... nobody buys your bullshit, Nads
And while they may all be awkward, I actually prefer it to the perfect ones on TV as we can a) all laugh about it together and b) it's just cute and we can all take the piss of how innocent we were and I love it.
Like I get it if the people are both good kissers etc. and good at being smooth and stuff but if neither of the people have kissed before it's likely to be awkward af. But the thing is that's not bad either and if anything, makes it kind of cuter in my opinion? Because it's usually quite sweet and can make the characters appear more innocent too which I personally adore
And also like when I saw these perfect kisses on TV it made it kind of anti-climatic too. Like I was expecting it to be this massive perfect thing and when it wasn't like that was fine too but I was dissapointed for a few days after. And like they always miss the cute bits afterwards like my friends exchanging dumb stories about it or my other friend fretting that she hadn't kissed anyone and stuff which can work really well for character development and stuff
Idk it's just been annoying me today because for some reason everyone's been bringing it up today - E x
