Chapter 20: Hostage Crisis

And now we're back. Hope you're all ready, cause here we go!

Asuna's POV:

Asuna hadn't planned on moving her entire family any time soon, but now, all plans would have to change. She had managed to get everything ready, finally. There was this cloud of seriousness that loomed over the house. She felt it, Kirito had mentioned it in passing, even her daughter Akari and her infant son Itsukl seemed to know something serious was happening. It was all Asuna could do to keep them occupied and not asking questions.

Now they gathered at the front door, but just as Kirito went to open it, the door went flying off its hinges, revealing a rather grim looking gathering of players, all of whom wore Knights of the Blood Oath uniforms.

One of them, the leader Asuna guessed, stepped forward.

"Kirito, The Black Swordsman, and Asuna the Lightning Flash, you are under arrest for acts of treason against the Knights of the Blood Oath, and will be taken into custody, along with your children."

Asuna's face paled. "No!" She said.

The leader stepped back. "Take them away."

Kirito's POV:

Kirito and Asuna had been brought before Himura shortly after they had arrived at the guild headquarters.

Himura stood up once everyone had entered and came around the front of his desk.

"Kirito Kirito Kirito." He said disappointingly. "Whatever will I do with you. What have I done that you would try and desert the guild. Surely you know better than that."

Kirito looked silently up at Hiruma.

"Now." Hiruma said. "Take out all the weapons you got from the bandits camp. And just to be clear, if you try and give me fakes, I'll know, and you won't be the one I hurt. That role will fall to your family to bear the results of your deceit."

Hiruma pointed to Asuna and the children. Immediately, several guards pulled clubs and hefted spear bunts and surrounded them.

"Now. Kirito." Hiruma said, leaning down until he was eye to eye with Kirito. "The weapons. All of them."

Kirito knew that he had to comply. If he didn't, well, he didn't even want to imagine that. Slowly, he took one weapon after another out of his inventory until he had laid about twenty of them out on the floor.

"That's it?" Hiruma said.

Kirito nodded. Hiruma smiled at him.

"You know Kirito, I would believe you, but your ideals mean that you might be lying to me, so..." Hiruma raised his hand and the guards standing over Asuna and the children raised their weapons. Asuna covered the children with her own body, trying to shield them from what looked like the inevitable beating.

"Wait... here." Kirito said. He pulled one more weapon out of his inventory, a sword, and laid it down with the others. "There. That's all of them. Now please, let my family go."

Himura sighed. "Fine Kirito. You've been such a good boy I guess I can let them go." He nodded to the guards who picked up Asuna and the children.

"That is, of course, after they suffer the penalty for you trying to steal from me while in my presence. Guards!"

"NOOOOO!!!!!!!" Kirito yelled as the guards holding Asuna and the children suddenly raise their clubs and brought them down upon their victims, landing several hits on Asuna and the children. One club slammed into Itsuki's chest, another into Akari's legs, knocking her over. Asuna whipped out her rapier and started slicing apart anyone who stepped near her and the children. She was holding them off for the mot part, but her and the children were already battered, and she was trying not to glance at Itsuki, who didn't look to be breathing.
