Epilogue: a Sad Ending, Yet a Happy Beginning

This is it, the final chapter, I hope you have enjoyed the story up 'till now, so let's dive into happy endings.

Akari's POV:

It had been a month since the battle that had saved Aincrad. With so many dead, the only thing people seemed to be able to do was mourn, and up until today, that was fine. However, Akari's dad and others knew that they had to get people's lives back on track, so, the first event on the road to healing would be her and Zaor's wedding, held right there on floor 22.

It was on this most wonderful of days that Akari found herself standing on a hill overlooking the forest nearby only an hour before her own wedding, thinking of everything and everyone she had lost, especially those she had lost.

"Akari?" Came a voice that made her heart flutter. She turned around to see Zaor climbing up the hill.

"Akari, the weddings in an hour, don't you think it's time we be there?"

"You didn't have to look for me." She said.

"You know I would've. Come on, it's time to move on."

Akari knew he was right, but there was something that kept her from leaving.

"What if I forget him?" She asked. "What If I move on, and I forget him as a result?"

Zaor came over and wrapped his arms around her. Akari couldn't help but lean into the comfort of his embrace.

"You cared for him didn't you?" Zaor asked.

"Yes."

"Then as long as you do, you will always carry him in your heart, and that can never die."

Akari smiled at that thought.

"Maybe it is time I moved on." She said. "Come on then." She began dragging him down the hill towards where the ceremony was to be held.

Zaor smiled as he let her pull him along.

<Timeskip>

Kirito's POV:

Zaor and Akari stood at the end of the reception saying goodbye to everyone. The ceremony before had gone perfectly and the reception that followed couldn't have been smoother. Everyone had a good time, but now was the hardest part. Akari and Zaor would now set out to make their own lives, and Kirito wouldn't be nearly as much a part of that as he used to.

Akari came over and gave Kirito a hug.

"Goodbye dad, and thanks for everything."

"Your welcome. Make sure to visit us soon now ok?"

Akari smiled. "You know I will."

Zaor stepped forward and shook hands with Kirito before Kirito engulfed him in a hug.

"Your one of the family now." Kirito said.

Zaor nodded. "I will take care of her. You have my word."

Kirito watched as both of them stepped away and began on their journey to their honeymoon spot. No one would see them for the better part of two months.

Kirito felt arms wrap around him as the party packed up and he watched Akari and Zaor fade into the distance.

"Don't worry, they'll be fine." Asuna said. "Meanwhile, you have someone else who will be occupying a lot of your time, and it isn't your son."

Kirito smiled and Kissed his wife, pulling her into his embrace as he did so. They separated and Asuna pulled him into their bedroom now that they had their house to themselves again.

...And they had a wonderful rest of the night.

Meanwhile...

Akari's POV:

"Hey Akari, what do you think your parents are doing right now?" Zaor asked.

Akari smiled at him teasingly. "Wouldn't you want to know." She said teasingly, then she grabbed his hand, and pulled him forwards down the road and into the distance, and the start of their married journey.

And that's the last of it. Man, six months of writing have paid off at last, or they will when you guys read all this. I sincerely hope you have all enjoyed reading this fanfic and that you found the journey as fun to read as I found it to write. I will definitely be doing another SAO fanfic at some point in the future, though not the immediate future, as I have some other ideas to finish up first and others requested of me.
