Chapter 23: One Last Hope

Asuna's POV:

Asuna blocked an attack from one sword and ducked under a slice from another. Then she thrust her rapier into one enemies throat while dodging to the side to avoid a spear that came flying right at her.

Asuna had never known such chaos on battle as this. There was almost no room to move, and no end to the enemies that were constantly throwing themselves at her. She was finding herself very hard pressed to defend herself, several cuts and small knicks already showing just how hard she was finding it.

Asuna leapt over one Blood Knight who was swinging an axe at her to chop her in half. She landed on the other side and swiped her sword across his neck, opening a gaping wound. Then she followed it up with a stab that planted her sword in his chest. The player depixelated, and Asuna felt herself almost freeze up again. This must've been the 17th person she had killed, and while she was doing it in self-defense, it didn't make the weight of their deaths on her any lighter. Asuna moved on to the next opponent, and then next. Hoping that at some point that this madness and death would just end.

Kirito's POV:

Kirito's eyes slowly opened as he began to wake. The first thing he saw, was his daughter Akari looking into his eyes.

"Daddy. Wake up. Help mommy." Kirito bolted up at those words.

"What do you mean?" He asked Akari. She sat there in his lap, looking like she was trying to figure out what to say, then Thinker came in the room with Yulier right behind him.

"Ah, Kirito, you're awake."

Kirito looked up at Thinker. "What happened while I was asleep?"

Thinker sighed. "A lot actually, basically..."

Thinker explained the situation to Kirito. Starting from when Asuna arrived at the guild base to the present, including the current battle going on.

"So, you think you can help us push them back?" Thinker asked.

Kirito sat there silently for a moment. "Actually, I have a better idea." He stood up and quickly strode out the door. Thinker and Yulier looked after him as he began running down the hall.

Thinker sighed. "Alright then. Yulier my love. Would you look out for these two until the battle is over?" Yulier's face showed disappointment for a moment before she nodded. Of course.

Thinker nodded. "Thank you. I just need to know that you are safe." He gave her a kiss on the cheek and then left to go join the battle.

Yulier sighed and turned to check on her charges. That's when she noticed that on of them was missing. She was sure there had been two of them a minute ago. Where was the little girl that had been wandering around before? Where was Akari?

Akari's POV:

(Keep in mind that anything Akari might say is said in a babyish voice. You can use your imagination. As for what is here, I don't know how to replicate toddler talk in text, so be creative, and enjoy)

Akari, meanwhile, was doing what seemed like the most logical thing in her mind to do when she needed something. She was going to find mommy. She was doing this because she had this little pointy thing in her inventory that when she had last held it a few minutes ago, had started to hum and glow slightly, and being the darling little three-year old that she was, she wanted to show it to mommy.

So off she had went when that strange man in armor had held the door open while talking to the lady from earlier.
