⌠REALITY KILLS⌡

NOTHING WAS GOOD, nothing was right. For the past few years Evangeline constantly felt that her life had become a battlefield, it was like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Another sleepless day convoyed herself, another hopeless day devoured each particle within her body with heaps of nightmares adhering to her everywhere. The vast ocean that provided a prodigious sight to her eyes still couldn't domesticate all the fear and the feelings of abundant insecurity inside her, leaving her to seized the need to always take hold of vigilance.
"Oh no," Pepper's voice rang out, her soft footsteps echoing throughout the living room. "Tell me you're not just standing there all night."
Evangeline blinked twice before she lowered her head, wrapping her arms around herself and rubbing her palms against her cold skin for a small effort to warm herself. "I can't sleep."
"Eva, it's been two days," Pepper walked over the brunette girl and placed her hands on Evangeline's shoulders, a scowl finding its way to stop by her face. "You have to try."
"Every time I close my eyes, I see them," Evangeline answered as she tightened her grip on herself. "My parents, the Colonel, the Winter Soldier, Staci. I've seen everyone, haunted me, tortured me, blamed me."
The worst part was that those nightmares would end in the persecution chamber where Evangeline's body limped on the operating table, electrodes were adamantly placed on her scalp. The people who dubbed themselves scientists corralled her, experimented on her, composed her to be more than just an average kid, but in the end, all they did was paralyzed her. Cries of affliction boomed throughout the room, shredding the life that she was desperately kept intact.
Everything Evangeline hated about herself was also created by them, all the questions that constantly questioning whether she deserved to live or not came from their actions. And if one day their world collided, Evangeline swore she wouldn't give them any slightest mercy.
In Pepper's point of view, she could never understand the situation Evangeline had experienced, even though they met as Extremis' lab rats, Evangeline had gone through much worse than that, the fettle that Pepper strongly thought she had no chance to survive from it. It was a fluke Pepper could be cured while Evangeline needed to grind the battle scars for the rest of her life. The amount of trauma that scuffled inside her had reached the limit of her humane vitality, it was quite understandable if Evangeline lost the momentum to keep on living.
"Come on, let's take a seat." Pepper cooed and gently dragged her to the couch, sitting with Evangeline's back facing the blonde woman. It had been almost a week Evangeline stayed in Tony's mansion, and during those days, not once did she get a good night's sleep until it caused her to take time off from school. It also made Pepper and Tony work things out between them because he knew, the best for now was to take care of Evangeline together, or because Tony couldn't bear to hear her screaming in agony every night alone, knowing he could never heal a wounded soul.
