~ Brendon's pov ~
All I can see is red, my anger of being kicked out of my job and town had me on the verge of losing my shit. John Carlile was a prick and would get what's coming to him one day, I'm just angry I can't be there to see it. Throwing my box of stuff from the office into my trunk cursing his very name, what the fuck am I supposed to do about Sutton? I can't leave her hanging, I care about her way to much to just have her think I abandoned her. "Brendon?" Turning around seeing Bill standing behind me looking at my box in the trunk confused. "Good morning, sir." I said trying to sound polite, fortunately I get to keep my job and will be able to move back once that prick is out of the office; so the last thing I would want to do is piss Bill off. "Did you quit?" He skipped the pleasantries. "No, sir. I'm moving to Mobile Alabama for a couple of months. I'll be trained at an office there and close by to take care of my grandmother." He nodded his head and gave me a pat on the back. "Take care, if you need anything feel free to call me." Nodding and giving him my thanks I got in my car and headed to my house, all I wanted to do was punch something but unfortunately I have until noon to pack all my essentials and get out of town. I could feel my phone vibrate in my pocket, I knew it would be her telling me good morning and how much she missed me and couldn't wait to see me. Only if she knew how badly I wanted to ask her to run away with me, I would never do that though.
All my suitcases were filled to the brim and my closet was now bare, I hated this sight. I had already called my mother, she was actually already at my grandmother's house. She was thrilled that I'll be staying with her for a couple of months, I didn't tell her the full truth about why I was coming, only that I was being trained at a nearby office over there. My phone had gone off a couple of times killing me a little more each time it was from her, I knew what I had to do, just doing it was going to be hard. Grabbing a piece of paper and pen I sat down on the couch, I'll find a way to get this note to her, if it's the last thing I do. Once the note was done I headed back into my room giving it one last check before I leave, glancing at her side table I seen her book laying there with a mark in it from where she last left off. Grabbing the book, I made my way out of the house after loading all my stuff. 'Hey, can we meet up and talk?' I had thought long and hard about texting Brooke but I knew that I needed to talk to her, her reply was instant. We agreed to meet up at a diner by Sutton's house which was on my way out of town, this day has probably been the shittiest day I've had in a really long time.
"Hey, love.... you okay?" Brooke asked as she slid into the booth across from me, not answering I just shrugged my shoulders. "What's going on?" She pressed on. "I'm leaving town, for awhile." Her eyes widened. "Why?! Is it because of that girl? You don't have to leave because of her." Rolling my eyes, I let out a sigh. "My grandmother is ill, so I'll be moving in with her for a bit. While I'm gone, I don't want you fucking with Sutton."
Her eyes narrowed as she scuffed. "Does she even know you called me, let alone asked to meet up with me?" The waitress placed a cup of coffee in front of me, nodding my thanks I looked back to Brooke. "No, she doesn't even know I'm leaving yet." Anyone could see the gears turning in her head a mile away, she was plotting and I knew I just made a big mistake. "Why are you telling me first?" "Because I need you to look after my house for me, please." She nodded giving me a warm smile. "Of course, Brendon. I hope you don't mind if I plant some flowers by the porch like I always wanted to?" "No, I don't care. Just please take care of it." I said as I slid my house key to her, she gave me a sad smile and took them placing them in her purse. "Would it be okay if I came and visited you?" Her eyes held hope for a future for us but my heart was breaking for someone else. "I don't know, we'll see." I finished my coffee and placed money down on the table, it was nearing 11:30 and I had two more stops to make. "I'll see you around, Brooke. Thank you." She stood up giving me a tight embrace and kissed my cheek. "Call me, sometime. I love you, Brendon." Nothing more was said as I made my way out of the diner and down the street to the jewelers. I don't know what I was doing but my heart and head agreed on everything that was happening. "Is this the ring?" The little old man asked handing me a simple silver 14k diamond ring, it wasn't big but it wasn't tiny. "It's perfect." I didn't need a box so he just handed me to ring and told me good luck, once I got in my car I reached over and grabbed her book opening it to her bookmark. Reaching in my pocket I pulled the note out and placed it behind her bookmark then grabbed the string hanging from it and tied the ring to it. Closing the book felt like I was locking my heart in a dungeon and throwing away the key, I haven't felt this kind of heart break since Brooke.I was sitting across the street from her house, the only car that was there was hers. I could only assume that her prick of a father made her mother drop her off, looking around I made sure no one was out before I got out and ran over to her car. Luckily for me she had given me the spare key incase of emergencies, I placed the book on her drivers seat and locked her car back up. I had contemplated on leaving her key but that felt like I was telling her goodbye, this isn't goodbye, this is just a see you later kinda deal for me.
