The house is quiet, almost silent apart from the light snoring coming from Kitty's bedroom. Bucky came home as I was saying goodbye to Natasha, he ignored me and pushed past me. He never came down for dinner or said anything to me. He went straight to his bedroom, slamming his door behind him.

Climbing out of bed, I pull on jeans and a t-shirt and my leather jacket. Tiptoeing down the hall, I quietly open Kitty's bedroom door. Stepping in, I find the backpack of her clothes and swing it over my shoulder. Already in the boot of the car is a suitcase of a few of my things, Kitty's toys and all of her Avengers teddies. Slipping back her duvet, I gently scoop the sleeping Kitty into my arms. She starts to murmur as I place her against my chest, wrapping her legs around my waist.

Carefully carrying her downstairs, I open the front door and quietly close it behind me. Sliding Kitty into her car seat on the passenger side, I pull the seat belt over her and click it into place. I close the car door as quietly as possible. Walking around, I climb into the drivers side. Looking in the mirror, I can see Bucky stood in the doorway. He races out before I can drive away. Bucky jumps in front, blocking my way out.

"What are you doing, Steve?" He shouts.

"Saving Kitty's life." I shout back.

He storms around to the side of the car, banging his fist on the window and I'm forced to turn down the window so he doesn't wake Kitty. His eyes are wide with anger and he clenches his hand into a fist.

"Why? Why are you doing this?" He questions, staring at Kitty asleep in the passenger side.

Guilt instantly rushes through me. To see the pain and disappointment in his big eyes, clinging on to the hope that I don't take Kitty. But she can't defend or protect herself, she relies on me. Bucky loves her, but if he really does lover her then he'll accept I have to take her away to protect her.

"She's in danger." I state.

"Please, Ste, don't do this. Please." He begs.

"I have to. I need to before she gets hurt." I argue.

"Steve! Don't do this. I can protect her. She's safer with me."

"She's safer away from you!" I shout.

He's taken aback, the realisation sinking in all of a sudden. He bows his head at the window.

"For Gods sake Bucky, I love you but I won't let Kitty get hurt simply because I didn't take her away for a while." I argue.

His eyes snap up when I say those special three words. I never thought I would say them. A single tear falls from his eye and trickles down his cheek. I'm about to reach up and wipe it away, like I always do, when he shakes his head at me.

"I understand. Go, Steve. But, if anything does happen to me, will you please remember something?"

I nod.

"I'm with you till the end too, Ste. Do you know why that is? Because I-I love you."

Bucky takes a few steps back and I pull out of the driveway. My head is telling me to look in the rear view mirror to see Bucky stood on the driveway. But I dont. I can't look in his terrified eyes. The road becomes blurry in front of me as I pull onto the roads.

I'm forced to pull over when I reach a country lane. Tears stream down my cheeks like waterfalls. Wrapping my hands around the steering wheel at the top, I rest my head on the leather and let all of the tears out.

To begin with, Bucky didn't like the idea of having a child in the house. I never understood why, until now. He didn't want another person that could be yanked away from him. I should have listened to him, then I would have been able to stay by his side and defend him.
