The phone blaring pulls me awake. Groaning, I reach to the bedside table and grab my phone.
"Yes?" I groggily ask.
"Ste? Ste, I need you to come get me." Bucky's panicked voice announces.
"Bucky? It's 3am. Where are you?"
"I have Kitty."
I sit bolt upright, grabbing my t-shirt from the chair in the corner and yanking it over my head.
"How?" I question.
"I snuck into SHIELD." He admits.
Pulling on my shoes, I grab my car keys from the bedside table and sprint down the stairs.
"Bucky, that's breaking the law." I point out, locking the front door behind me.
"Well, I punched Romanoff so that's probably the first thing I did to break the law and I thought I might as well take Kitty at the same time." He explains.
"You punched Romanoff?" I quiz, climbing in the car.
"Yes. Now, can you please come get us?"
"Where are you?"
"The park." He says.
"I'll be right there."
Ending the call, I swerve out of the driveway.
Pulling into the park, I climb out and see Bucky sat on the wall with Kitty hugging his chest. Her legs are wrapped around his waist and her arms are locked behind his neck, her face hidden in Bucky's shoulder. Running over, I stop in front of him. There's the biggest grin I've ever seen on his lips.
Leaning forward, I hold his face in my hands and kiss him quickly. Pulling back, I then kiss Kitty's forehead and rub my hand in a circle on her back.
"You got her." I whisper.
"Yep." He grins.
"I can't believe you punched Natasha." I mumble.
"She's used to being attacked." He quotes.
"How long do you think it will be until they realise?" I quiz.
"An hour or so."
"Can I hold her?" I ask.
Bucky nods. Carefully, I take her from him and clutch her to my chest. Kitty mumbles, fidgeting and wrapping her arms tighter around my neck. Her breath is hot on my skin and I smile. Placing my hand on her head, I gently sway with Kitty asleep in my arms.
"I love you, Kitty." I whisper.
I feel Bucky place a hand on my back and he slips his arms around my waist, clasping his hands together on my stomach.
"You're not mad at me?" He questions.
"No. I'm thankful." I admit. "We can't stay here, we need to hide."
"Come on then."
Bucky opens the car door and I gently place Kitty in her car seat, pulling the seatbelt over her. I race around and climb in the driving side, glancing at Bucky sat beside me. Putting the key in the engine, Bucky leans over and grips my hand for a second, squeezing his fingers between mine.
"Where are we going to go?" Bucky asks, looking up with fear filled eyes.
Slowly, I raise my hand and brush my thumb across his bottom lip, over his cut.
"A safe house. No one will know we are there and we can look after Kitty properly." I say.
"Okay. I trust you."
