*The Next Day*

Piling the shopping in the boot of the car, I then rip open the box containing the pink car seat and place it in the passenger side. Shutting the boot, I climb in and look down the long receipt. I brought sweets, clothes, colouring books, pencils, dolls, light up toys, bracelet making kits, alphabet game sets, number games and loads of other stuff apparently suitable for a 5 year old.

Reversing out of the car park, I drive straight to SHIELD. I make sure that one juice box and a packet of crisps are in the front, in case Kitty is hungry.

Pulling into SHIELD, I climb out and lock the car. I scan my badge at the entrance and again at the elevator. Stepping out, Fury is stood with his back to the lift and watching a screen. Striding in, he's watching a live video of Kitty sat in a white room.

"She's just a child, Sir." I point out.

"I can see that, Cap. I'm just confused as to why she is here and doesn't remember anything." He argues.

"Bucky didn't remember anything, but he's started to." I say.

"Then hopefully you can apply the same techniques to this child and get her to remember."

"Yes, Sir."

Fury steps forward, holding down a button on the control panel below the screen.

"Agent Hill, bring the child out." He orders.

Watching the screen, Maria pushes open the door and says something to the girl. Kitty looks up, a smile on her face and she jumps off the built in bed. She races out of the room and turning around, I just catch her in time as she leaps onto me. She hugs me tight, wrapping her arms around my neck and I slip my arms across her back.

"Hello again, Kitty."

"Captain America!" She squeals.

Kitty fidgets in my arms until she's sitting on my hip, her legs around my waist and her hand locked behind my neck.

"Are you 100% sure you will be okay with this?" Maria asks.

"Yes. Bucky might take some convincing but Kitty won't be happy with anyone else."

"I want Captain America!" She says, smiling and kicking her legs gently.

"We will raise your pay to help look after her, and when you are needed for a mission we will provide someone to take care of her." Fury explains.

"Thank you. Bye."

They both say goodbye and I carry Kitty to the elevator.

"Have you had something to eat and drink, Kitty?"

She shakes her head, sucking her thumb again.

"How old are you?"

"Five." She mumbles.

The doors spring open and I walk out. Kitty rests her head on my shoulder, watching the people wander around SHIELD. Strolling to the car, I place Kitty in the pink car seat and help her pull the seatbelt over. I grab a book from the back of the car and hand it to her.

Reaching the house, Kitty stays sat in her seat until I walk around and let her out. She grips my hand as I open the front door and guide her into the hallway. On the left is the living room and in front is the kitchen. To the right is a bathroom and a set of stairs leading to the three bedrooms.

Bucky walks out of the living room and stops, he glances at Kitty with confused eyes. Then he looks at me, questions running in his eyes.

"Kitty, this is Bucky. Bucky, this is Kitty." I introduce.
