Fly opened her eyes to the dull sound of people talking. The mini tv that she and Ari shared was turned down low, and Looney Tunes was playing quietly. She looked over at Ari, who was silently reading her Kindle. Her watch showed 4:36am. The sun hadn't risen yet.
"How long have you been awake?" Fly whispered sleepily.
Ari looked up, closing her kindle and putting it down on her nightstand. She thought about it for a moment, before answering. "About two hours, maybe more."
"Why? I've only known you for a couple of days, but you slept in until 7:30 yesterday, and I don't think that was a one off. And I don't think this is a one off either. It's 4:41 for God's sake. Why are you up so early?"
"It's nothing."
"Ari. Nothing doesn't cut it. What happened?"
"Nerezza happened."
"Will you tell me?"
"No. I'll show you." Then she closed her eyes, entered Fly's mind and showed her the memory of her dream.
\\Memory//
Ari walked through the blank white dreamscape. As she walked, she reached a black chaise longue with dark purple trim. Laying on the chaise was Nerezza, her long dress curling around her legs, falling to the floor.
"I thought I told you never to come back."
"We're not in your dreamscape. We're in mine."
"What?"
"I don't know. It takes a lot of power to enter another person's dreamscape. Power you don't have. You've never used your element, even if you had you still wouldn't have enough power. Not even Namaka has the power to, and she's Elementor. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"I have a theory as to your power."
"What?"
She laughed hard. "Now where's the fun in telling you? You still haven't learned? Every time I leave you a clue, I'm twisting you more and more around my finger. You can never defeat me, you're just dolls! Toys for me to play with, and toss away when I get bored. But I won't get bored for a long time, so prepare to be twisted." Then she snapped her fingers, and Ari sat up in bed, sweat beads rolling down her forehead.
\\End Memory//
Ari left Fly's mind, a tear in her eye. She pushed her palms into her eyes and rubbed away the tears. Then she looked up to Fly.
"She's just playing us! She'll probably never tell us where she is, we'll probably never know."
"Aaw, Ari. Don't say that, it'll be fine. We'll find her, okay? Don't cry, oh don't cry." Ari began to quietly sob.
"You wait here." Fly silently slipped out of bed and walked into the main room. She opened the mini fridge, grabbing two Cadbury chocolate bars, and putting the money where they had been.
"Here, this'll cheer you up." She handed one of the bars to Ari, and they sat together watching tv and eating chocolate until the others woke up.
