Something about Ari's body was different. She had been zoned-out in her dreamscape, and as usual her body had curled into the fetal position. But after about five minutes, her body had slackened into a simple sleeping position, if that person were laying on their side. Her body turned around and she splayed out a little. Her head rested on one arm, the other lay on her side. Her legs mostly unfurled, but they were still curled up a little. Her hair floated unnaturally, as though there was a breeze blowing. Her Ringette glowed.
The others looked at their Ringettes. Nothing. They flew on in silence for the rest of the journey. After probably an hour, the silver-haired girl opened her eyes.
"You okay? What happened?"
"I... I don't know. I..." Her eyes went wide. "I took off my Ringette, then there was this massive surge through my body. Then as soon as I put it back on, I just collapsed." Another five minutes of silence, then the island came into view. They skimmed low over the water to avoid trouble, but couldn't avoid the little motor boat with it's crew of three who had gone out to fish. Six wide eyes stared at the girls that flew over the water, their legs trailing down, their hair flapping out.
Nam flew down into the water again, and Ana screamed "God dammit Namaka, don't you dare drop us again!"
"I won't, woman!" An eruption of laughter. They all dove beneath the waves, rising up glittering and shimmering. Ari felt a rush go through her, not like the first one, but calm and beautiful. The air swirled around her, but she could do nothing with it. She felt a loss.
They reached the edge of the island, clambering onto the land. Namaka drew the water from them and they walked up over the sandy beach to the water-front hotel. There was only one room left, and it only had two beds, but they booked it anyway and went on up.
Thankfully, the room had three couches so Fly and Ari took two of the sofas and the others grabbed the two double beds. None of them ready to fight half-asleep, they fell onto the beds, passing straight out.
