Now I may be a bit of a hypocrite when I talk about this, considering I tend to be horrible at this.
The length of fanfictions can be a double edged sword. Something too short doesn't give you that punch that a climax of a story should, but if it is way too long you just get tired of reading it. For example, when I read Infatuation by MaskCover, I could only read 3 of the endings(2 of the boys' and the true one) since I was so tired of reading it. That doesn't make it a bad story, but reading 92 chapters that are super long bores me to a point. So simply put, stories like that bore someone who isn't that much of a reader.
Then there's the problem with oneshots, some are really good and have potential to become an actual story, but the author's just quit that idea and just write a oneshot. I don't mean to bash oneshots, as said previously, there are some amazing ones out there, but the climax doesn't hit me as hard as fanfictions that took a lot more time to build the atmosphere and what not.
So basically my advice, try to find a happy middle if you want nearly everyone to like you fanfiction. If you want to attract an audience full of people who love to read 92 chapter behemoths, go ahead I'm not going to stop you. Just note that not everybody is going to like the stuff you make and that is perfectly okay!
Don't you just hate it when you're reading an amazing fanfiction and you then realize that it hasn't been updated in about a year. Now I'm not going to bash on new fanfiction, because there are so many cool things with new fanfiction, but why does it seem like all the good fanfiction are on a 4 year hiatus or some shit?
Or on the other side of the coin, the same shitily written fanfiction is getting updated every damn day. Can I just get a filter on the site to get rid of all the bad fanfiction that would be really great.
These points are mainly about fandom fanfics since like the good ones of fandoms I am in haven't been updated in forever, or there's only one good fanfic that is being updated.
