I know I mention this like all the time but thanks so much for all the reads. It just astounds me that I have almost 9,000 reads and that something I made got to this point.

Now I am not the most experienced in this topic since I'm not a big fan of romance genres, but a lot of romance fanfiction is absolute garbage. It's like all that shitty harem and shoujou anime. Like I get it is hard to tell someone you like them, but grow the hell up you ain't gonna get in a relationship, let alone maintain it, if you can't communicate!

One thing that annoys me whenever I do read romance fanfiction is the OOCness of canon characters. A cold-hearted character ain't gonna get lovey-dovey super quickly, you got to build up to that shit. Another example could be making a character who is known to be super noncommittal, and is known to sleep around frequently, to be completely devoted to the protagonist is so annoying.

Now like I have said before, I hate the term Mary Sue because it doesn't help you improve your character at all. However I think I can make an exception for what I am talking about. In most romance fanfiction, or actual published books, I have read the main character is either so amazing or so mistreated. This makes your character absolutely boring and not memorable at all, unless you can't being a major disappointment. This is probably one major reason why I avoid romance books, the characters are like as flat as plywood.

When I am reading a published book one thing that gets me is boring relationships, or ones that don't make sense. One good example of relationships I like to read about are the ones in the Percy Jackson series. The relationship between Percy and Annabeth does not feel forced and they grow together. One bad example of relationships is Magnus and Alex from the Magnus Chase series(Which if you don't know, is written by the same guy that wrote the Percy Jackson series). First of all, I don't think Magnus and Alex are compatible at all, sure they might fit as friends but that's about it. Since I never finished the second Magnus Chase book because all the pandering got extremely boring, I can't use firsthand experience, but from what I have read about it, I think I can make decent judgements. In my opinion, Alex is a Mary/Gary Sue, they are super overpowered, not much of a motive, and I feel like the author just slapped on a bunch of SJW jargon to make them more diverse n shit. Now there is nothing wrong with diverse characters, but if you are making a character just so you can say you make diverse casts is not okay. Anyways, I think the author needs to look back a bit at his older writings and take some inspiration from it.

One thing that gets me in romance books is that everything is focused on the relationship, like there's a world outside you know? I understand if you are doing this meta type book where you are showing the drama and the personal aspect of a relationship, but if it is some generic shoujou shit then show some other characters or at least show more stuff about the lives of the love interest!

Why is it that so many people are in love with the main character in fanficitons. Now I don't mind more than 1 love interests, but like not everybody is going to find your character attractive. Like I get that you want to have a nice fantasy where you can get all the guys/girls you want, but like why not watch a harem anime or something?

Now let's tackle the final monster in romance fanfiction, smut. Now if you guys could see my Wattpad library you'd be disappointed at the amount of smut I read, or that it is filled to the brim with irony and memes. Either way, y'all would be more disappointed than my parents. I hate it in a fanfic when sex is rushed so much, sure there are plenty of people who have sex early on in a relationship, but I wanna read some cute fluff shit ya know? Plus a lot of the smut scenes are pretty unrealistic, with the female orgasming like 3 times. Or you know the terrible anatomy of the main characters.

Anyways like I said before thanks for almost 9,000 views, I love you all!
