Victoria

At Casper's House

I did not think that Casper believed that I really did not like Andrew. Moreover, I could not believe he was so jealous. Casper turned the car off and just looked at me.

"Casper, I am sorry you are hurt, but-" I started to sniff the air. Someone was in the house.

"What is it, Victoria?"

"Someone is in the house!" I flew open the car door and ran to the front door of the house. I let my nails out and entered the house slowly.

"Oh, hi, sweetie!" A man and woman were looking back at me.

They smelled human and looked like it, too, but most supernatural beings can look human. They could be witches or made to look human by witches. There was an older woman standing in the foyer and a man standing in the kitchen.

"Mom, you're both back from the hunt." Casper walked in behind me. "That was faster than I'd thought." He pushed past me and grabbed onto my wrist lightly as he brushed by.

I looked down at my hands and folded them quickly into fists to hide my extended nails.

"Oh, hi, kiddo." They both hugged him.

"Who is this?" His dad asked.

I held out my hand to shake. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde. My name is Victoria." I shook both of their hands. "I am working with Casper on a project for-"

"Algebra two." Casper jumped in.

"What projects are assigned on the first day?" His mom questioned.

"Thanks, Casper. I had a plan." I said under my breath.

"Well, I'm sorry. I can't read your mind." Casper responded quietly and we both stood there smiling at his parents.

"Well," his mom said to break the silence, "Casper, we'll be having dinner soon if your friend wants to stay around. We don't mind, do we, David?"

"No, not all. You're welcome here anytime, Victoria."

Mrs. Clyde headed into the kitchen and her husband followed after her.

"Do you think they know anything?" I whispered to him.

"Only that we can't make up good excuses."

I turned and smiled at him, "So, are we going to work on a project?"

"No. I think you're going back to whatever you call home. I'll just say that your mom called you home to help out with your brother or something."

"Sounds good. Normal food tastes like ashes anyways." I opened the door and lingered for a second. "About Andrew," I started.

"I don't want to hear it, Victoria."

I nodded and closed the door behind me.

The Next Week at School, Lunch

"Do you think the stuff in school is hard?" Jacob said, staring at his homework like an old lady who is missing her glasses.

"Jacob, it's only been one week."

"I know."

I laughed at Casper and Jacob. "I have been to high school six times. The first time was in the," I paused so I could think about it, "Maybe I've been to high school seven times?"

They both laughed at me. "Come on. After you live five hundred years, you must know what is happening in class."

"Do vampires have a-" Casper shut up as soon as Andrew walked in.
