Victoria
Almost 3am
I sat on Casper's kitchen counter. I heard humming coming down the stairs.

"I like that song!" Casper froze and almost screamed. I put my index finger to my lips. "Shh. Don't want to wake anyone up."

"What're you doing in my house?"

"I got bored." I looked down at my hand that held a water bottle full of blood. I took a sip from the straw, not as tasty as it was in real life. "I was thinking about what motorcycle to buy you." I picked up my phone and started explaining motorcycle types. I exclaimed excitedly. "Oh, I'm buying you this one! Oh, they even make jet skis!" There was not an image on my phone, but I had to keep the dream going.

"Victoria, please stop and go home."

I put my hand on his, "Casper," I said seriously, "Hell is coming soon." He would not remember anything unless I- I kissed him. I dropped my phone and put my hand in his hair. Casper was not the worst kisser, but I knew I should stop.

"Victoria-" I could not do this anymore.

"You should probably wake up," I poked him in his tummy, "You're pretty hungry, or should I say, thirsty." I stuck my tongue out.

Awake
I held my head and hoped the message got to Casper. I had not done a spell like that in years. I groaned as I uncrossed my legs and got of the ground. It was late. I stretched and heard my back pop. I groaned and went to enjoy what I knew was probably the last day before they found out.

I walked in the dark to Maeve's house. I looked at her window that looked easy to break into. May as well give everyone something to dream about. Not wanting to strain my head so much, I opened Maeve's window and woke her up.

"Victoria, I think this is called breaking and entering," she said once she was awake.

I laughed. "How do you know this is not a dream?" Her expression changed from happy to fear. "My dreams are just screaming, endless screaming." It was her banshee powers manifesting in her dreams. "You're the only thing that calms the crying sounds of the dead." Her eyes glossed over as she thought about it.

"If this was a dream what would you do?"

She was filled with sudden confidence. "I'd probably kiss you, then fuck you, something like that."

I tried to hide my expression of shock at such an answer. I stood up and put my hand on her cheek. "I cannot love."

"Everyone can, just because you were hurt-" I shook my head, "I am going to tell you something, and you will understand it even though it doesn't make any sense." She nodded, staring into my red eyes. "You have probably noticed that my eyes are red. That is because I am a vampire, and a long time ago, I was cursed to not be able to feel love. I cannot even have a crush." I blinked my eyes and they returned to normal.

"So you're a vampire that can't love. That sounds like a bad movie plot."

I giggled, "Yeah, it does." I kissed her on her forehead. "Sleep." She fell limp into my arms. I put her back into her bed and hoped my actions tonight would not mess too much up.

The Morning
I waited for Casper to come outside his house.

"Victoria?" He turned red. "Victoria!"

I grinned, knowing he remembered the dream. "I bought you something!" I moved aside and showed him the motorcycle.

"Oh my gosh, Victoria!" He ran over to it and hugged the frame.

"It is a Kawasaki sports type, maybe not the most comfortable, maybe not the best off-road, but a good bike. It has a compartment for your guns or whatever and is a really good bike."

"I don't know how to ride a motorcycle."

I shrugged, "You can probably figure out how on YouTube."

"Do you know how to ride?"

I nodded, "But I do not think I will be able to teach you."

"Hell is coming, isn't it?" I tried not to smile because he remembered.

"I think so, too." There was a silence, and Casper came and hugged me, his arms tightening around my waist. "

"Vittorio's, going to be fine, he'll go away. Nothing will happen tod-" He was shot with a bolt of lightning.

"I am fine!" Vittorio stood in Casper's driveway. Vittorio laughed and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde came out, guns blazing.

"Get down." Mrs. Clyde put her hand on my head and held me down.

Vittorio put up a shield, and all the bullets were deflected. Vittorio waved his other hand and disappeared. We ran to Casper who groaned and scooted himself up the side of his house.

"Casper, let me get bandages." His parents both left, and I could hear them screaming at each other with my boosted senses.

"He was in your driveway, David!"

"I noticed, Mara."

"Mara?" I whispered the question to Casper.

"That's- ow- what my dad calls my mom."

"Mara," Mrs. Clyde started crying. "Get the bandages for our son and send his friend off to school."

"Okay, okay." I assumed they hugged or something.

I hugged Casper, "I am going to have to leave, Casper." I pulled his head to me and hugged tight.

"Victoria, I am going to be fine. I will just heal it later."

"But I might not be." I looked right into his pleading eyes.

Casper's father came back out, and I left before I started to cry.

Home
I pressed stop on the tape and took out the USB. This was too much for a Wednesday evening in November. I rubbed my eyes and leaned back in my chair. May as well get ready for tonight.
