Rye
He didn't remember falling asleep. He guessed he must've drifted off when he'd closed his eyes again, the boys conversation in the background gently pulling him in to slumber.
His eyes opened abruptly. He lifted his head and searched the room quickly. Nothing. So what had woken him?
He felt Mikey move beside him, and he sighed. He'd always been a light sleeper.
Rye ran his hand through Mikey's hair, and hesitantly pressed a kiss to his forehead. Mikey groaned slightly, his whole body twitching. Was he having a nightmare? Rye thought, pulling Mikey in even closer. He'd calmed down slightly, but was still restless, even in sleep. As softly as he could Rye hummed mindlessly until Mikey gradually stilled, but not before gripping his shirt tighter in his hand. "You're safe." Rye whispered.
Silence followed, only interrupted by the incessant beeping of the machines beside the bed, and Mikey's slow and steady breathing.
"It's going to be hard, isn't it?" A voice spoke quietly from the other side of the room.
Rye whipped his head around so fast that he cricked his neck. He hissed softly, before meeting Brooklyn's worried gaze. Looking over he saw that Andy and Jack had passed out.He didn't even bother trying to lie.
"Yeah, it's gonna be a rough few weeks... Maybe even longer, but he'll pull through. Because he's Mikey Cobban." He insisted, deciding that during these next few weeks honesty with eachother would be crucial if they were to make this work. For Mikey's sake.
"You here that Mikey? You're gonna get through this. I have faith in you." Rye looked back to Mikey, sighing as he saw that his face had been scrunched up in an unknown pain. His heart ached, and he rested his head atop Mikey's again."I don't know how you do it." Brook whispered, moving and sitting into the chair that Rye had previously occupied.
"Do what?"
"What your doing... You managed to calm him down so quick... I wouldn't have any idea what I was doing." He curled in in the chair, staring at Rye with an almost wonderous look in his eyes."He's asleep Brook... It's always easier to comfort someone when they're asleep. I wouldn't know what to do if he was awake and started... I don't even know what he'd do Brook." Rye answered honestly, closing his eyes.
The whole situation kinda sucked."Why was he even out so late that night?" Brook whispered hoarsely. Rye opened his eyes to give Mikey another once-over. He shook his head.
"I don't know... I don't know what's going on in his head Brooklyn." Tears filled Rye's vision as he spoke, softly pressing his lips to Mikey's temple.
In reaction Mikey pulled himself even closer, so that his head was directly above Rye's heart.
"But he trusts you the most. You might not see it Rye... But he always goes to you first." Brook spoke.
"Really?" He asked quietly, drawing circles on Mikey's bare chest with his fingers. Mikey exhaled softly.
"He doesn't do that with anyone else." Brook nodded towards the two of them.Well, Rye thought, that was half true. Mikey and Jack cuddled up together quite a bit on the couch. He chose not to mention that though.
Brooks words had had the desired effect though, because Rye smiled softly at him. "Thanks."
"I'll leave you to it." Brook smiled, before patting Rye's shoulder, and leaning down to stroke Mikey's hair softly before he wandered back over to the other side of the room.A tear slid down his cheek.
He would be there for Mikey. For whatever reason. He'd be there to help, in more ways than one. And he'd look out for him.
"I'll always be here Mikey... Just let me in." Then he rested his head back on Mikey's, making sure to continue his gently touches.
He was asleep withing seconds.
