"We've made it here. Man, all my life has lead up to this." Jacob opens up his door and stretches. "Hey babe wake up, we're at the track."
Eris yawns and wakes up
"Welcome to Daytona babe."
"Wow compared to the K&N Series this track is massive."
"2.5 miles. 100 laps. I can't wait for First Practice."
They now start to walk to the Truck Series garage, a straightaway from Daytona's Road Course layout.
"Hey, you guys made it." Says Kyle
"Yea, ever since we crossed into Florida I've been anxious to start."
"Sounds similar to me. Anyways I have to get ready for Cup Series practice. Yours is a 40-minute session in about 10 minutes. Get your firesuit on and get ready."
"Will do sir," Jacob says as he runs back to his car and gets his new Pedigree, Microsoft firesuit. After 6 minutes Jacob runs back and grabs his gloves from off of the roof of the truck.
"Ok, be calm. You've done this before in K&N, you're perfect for this."
"Hun, you're going to be great. Just be focused."
"Ok babe, I love you."
"I love you too," Eris says as she kisses Jacob
Jacob grabs his helmet from off of the dash and puts it on. He climbs in and gets buckled up as his crew chief puts his window net up. The session goes green and the first two trucks onto the track is the 51 of Rose and one of his friends the 24 of Justin Haley.
"You have the 24 ahead of you. Now is a good time to practice drafting at a large track like this."
Down the back straight, Jacob bumps Haley enough to give him a good boost into 3.
"The truck feels good, but out of draft it feels tight through 1 and 2."
"We really should only be doing 2 laps out of the draft so it doesn't matter much."
"Ok, I'll let you have that."
Out of turn 4, the 18 of Noah Gragson catches the two truck pair and starts drafting with them.
"You've got Noah behind you. Do you want to try to pass Haley on the outside with him?"
"For sure."
The 18 and 51 jump to the top side and pass the 24.
**time skip to Qualifying because doing every practice is too much**
"How does the car feel?" Asks Jacob's crew chief
"Great. I feel like we have a top 5 car."
"Perfect let's keep your head down and we might get Pole. Also, remember only one round."
"Gotcha."
"Get ready, your 3rd in line."
Jacob climbs into the truck and puts his gloves and helmet on.
"One shot at this. Let's get this done."
Jacob fires up the truck and shifts into 2nd gear as he waits for Clay Greenfield to finish his lap. The 68 truck goes to the top of the charts as Jacob drives out.
"On the track next is a rookie from Indianapolis named Jacob Rose. Just about a month and a half ago he was signed to KBM with high hopes of being a great star in NASCAR's top three series. Out of turn 4, he drops to the bottom line to start his lap. Driving into turn 1 he's tracking about a tenth ahead of the 68. Out of 2 he's keeping that pace and adds another hundredth of a second onto it. Into turn 3 the 51 truck looks dialed in for pole position. Out of turn 4, the rookie from Indiana will take provisional pole by 15 hundredths of a second!"
"Good job Jacob that's provisional pole."
"Man I'm happy to get this lap done. Now let's get ready for tomorrows race."
**time skip to race, also the 51 starts P5**
"Welcome live here at Daytona for the NextEra Energy Resources 250!" Michael Waltrip tells the audience at home on FS1.
"After an incredible qualifying, the 52 of Stewart Friesen will take pole by 5 thousands of a second ahead of the 41 truck of Ben Rhodes. A big rookie presence is in the 3rd row with the 51 truck of Jacob Rose, and the 25 truck of Dalton Sargeant. Now, let's go trackside for the pre-race activities."
The screen cuts to a stage where the nation's colors are presented and the national anthem and a prayer are done before the drivers climb into there trucks and get ready to face 250 miles around this monster of a track. Jacob looks out his windshield trying to focus on the race.
"Ok, just keep your head down. We can win this."
The trucks pull off of pit road and start the 3 pace laps before the green flag.
"Jacob this is your spotter, remember just focus on what's ahead of you and I'll keep this truck safe."
"10-4. Let's bring a win home for the boss."
"Out of turn 4, the pace car pulls onto pit road as the green flag files here at Daytona!"
Jacob sees that already the 88 of Crafton is trying to force it three wide for the lead.
"Three wide ahead. Stay low and push the 52 truck."
Out of 4, Jacob gives Friesen a bump giving him a slight advantage to lead lap 1.
"Rose and Friesen are trying to break free from the pack but with Sargent behind Crafton this might turn into a 4 truck race after 7 laps."
"Ok, Friesen is clear. Three wide two up top."
"10 laps are completed here at Daytona with the top 5 being 1. Friesen 2. Rose 3. Crafton 4. B. Rhodes 5. Sargent."
"Ok still two outside. Woah look out the 41 is spinning into the 88!"
"Ben Rhodes through turn 2 spins into his teammate in the 88 of Matt Crafton! He also collects the 21 of Johnny Sauter!"
"Caution is out. Man, we got lucky."
"For sure. Damn man, I thought that was going to be the race over."
"I thought the same thing. Let's just regroup and get ready for the restart."
"Are we pitting?"
"It's going to be a one-stop. Everyone can make it until lap 60 a minimum."
"After 4 laps of cleanup, we're back green on lap 15! Friesen and Rose race into turn one with the 51 clearing the 52 out of turn 2!"
**time skip until 10 to go cause nothing happens until now**
"The 51 has dominated this race. He's defended charges from all of the Truck Series top starts and his boss in the 4 truck Kyle Busch."
"8 laps left. We're right there."
Jacob calmly drives the race until 5 to go
"Around goes the 16 of Brett Moffitt! Going hard into the 52 truck of Friesen in turn 2!"
"Caution. Damnit, man, we had to have this with 5 to go."
"It's going to be one helluva finish."
"For sure. We'll be restarting in overtime with a GWC. (Green White Checkered)"
"Ok just gotta make it one lap."
"Green flag is out in overtime! The 18 of Gragson tries to pass the 51 but doesn't have the help. Through turn 4 and one lap to go sponsored by Credit One Bank! Into turn one Jacob Rose defends from the 18 as he gets turned by the 92 of Regan Smith! He gets airborne bringing out the caution! Jacob Rose in his first truck series race wins at Daytona!"
"Yes! Oh my god yes! Playoffs here we come!"
"Let's go! You deserve this!"
Out of turn 4, Jacob starts to spin into the grass with his "signature" burn out down all of the front straight.
"Normally it's over by now. Wow, this is a long straight."
Jacob climbs out and stands on the roof of the truck. He looks out into the crowd with a big smile on his face. He climbs back in grabs the checkered flag and drives to victory lane. He climbs out and celebrates with his team. He then walks over to a reporter for an interview
"So Jacob, how did the truck feel?"
"Amazing, all race we didn't need to do anything."
"What's the goal for you this season?"
"Pick up a few more wins and get the title."
"Your Nextera Energy Resources 250 winner, Jacob Rose!"
After all the celebrations Jacob walks to his motorhome and hops onto the couch and goes to sleep.(So that was Daytona. Man, I did over 1400 words for the whole race weekend. Maybe over 1000 for the race its self. Anyways the next race is the Active Pest Control 200 at Atlanta)
