Chapter 2: Musical Wonders

*Luke’s POV*

I looked over to Ashton in English, admiring the boy. Tousled dark blonde hair. Hazel eyes that seemed to be filled with pain. He wore mainly dark clothes, possibly why those jerks were calling him emo. The poor guy. He’s so beautiful, in a totally heterosexual way. He doesn’t deserve that crap.

“Mr. Hemmings!” a stern voice screeched from the front of the room. I quickly snapped my gaze away from Ashton. I looked at Ms. Squaler, resisting the urge to say, “What up?”. She glared at me as if she read my mind. “If you can keep your attention at the front of the room, we can continue. So, may we?”

“Yes ma’am.” I gave her a warm smile until she turned around again. As soon as she did, I returned my attention to Ashton. But when I looked at him, he was looking at me. I smiled kindly, hoping he would spare one in return. His eyes smiled, but his lips didn’t move.

He turned away quickly, before pulling out a sheet of paper. He wrote something down before handing it to me.

Why do you keep staring at me?

I chuckled softly before writing something in return:

Because you’re beautiful.

I handed it off to him. He read my words and scoffed. He scribbled something before giving it to me.

I’m anything but beautiful.

I read it. How could he not tell how amazing he is? God, I bet if he smiled he could light up the entire world. What am I thinking? He’s a guy! A very attractive guy at that… wait, what? I shook my head at my thoughts and wrote something to distract myself.

Ashton, you are amazing. I know that and I just met you, if that doesn’t say something, what will? I can already tell, you're beautiful, smart, kind, and I bet you have an amazing smile.

I handed it over to him, a smile on my face. I hoped he would believe what I said. He looked at it, tears brimmed in his eyes. He wrote something quickly and hastily handed it back to me.

I could smile for you if you want… but you have to wait for a little while. Okay?

I smiled. I saw the opportunity, and I took it.

Okay. So, new topic. How old are you?

I passed it over to Ashton. He smiled. He passed it back.
